Job Description Chief Executive Office (CEO)- Incubation
Reporting to: Board, BMU Incubation Foundation
Job Location: BML Munjal University Campus
Position Purpose
The CEO will be the primary custodian of the operational excellence and community impact of Incubation at BML Munjal University (BMU). This role requires a rare blend of corporate efficiency, academic diplomacy, and community engagement. The CEO will lead the day-to-day operations of incubation, translating the strategic vision into actionable programs.
Core Responsibilities
A. Community & Grassroots Leadership
- Inclusive Scouting: Lead outreach in unserved/underserved regions to identify grassroots innovators, women entrepreneurs, and rural youth.
- Local Problem Solving: Design programs that encourage Innovation to solve regional challenges (Agri-tech, Water, Waste, etc.).
- Stakeholder Network: Build a network of local mentors, NGOs, and industry and investor partners who can provide technical, market, and financial access to community startups.
- Portfolio Management: Monitor the technical, and commercial progress and milestone achievement of incubated innovators/startups.
B. Strategic Operations & Compliance
- Grant Governance: Act as the primary nodal officer for the various government agencies supporting incubation. Manage the Grant-in-Aid mobilization as per objectives and budget.
- Compliance & Reporting: Prepare and submit operational and outcome reports on required frequency.
- SOP Development: Design and enforce operational protocols for incubation, from startup selection to graduation and seed fund management.
C. Infrastructure & Technical Management
- Co-working and Community Lab Oversight: Manage the Co-working space and Community Lab (Makerspace/Fab-lab), ensuring availability and access for community members and students.
- IP & Tech Transfer: Facilitate the protection of Intellectual Property (IP) for grassroots innovators and manage the interface with the host institution's faculty.
D. Financial Sustainability
- Revenue Generation: Move the incubator toward a self-sustaining model by offering consultancy, testing services, and corporate CSR partnerships.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Education: MBA or Master's in Social Entrepreneurship from a reputed institution.
- Experience: 10+ years of professional experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within a corporate innovation vertical, incubator/accelerator, or a social enterprise. Experience of startup set up and scale up would be an advantage.
- Government Liaison: Prior experience of dealing with government agencies like DST, MeitY, or NITI Aayog grants is desirable.
Technical & Soft Skills
- Leadership Ability: Ability to engage with team members, BMU team, other stakeholders and secure alignment and support.
- Strategic Management: Capacity to identify the relevant opportunities for creating community impact through innovation.
- Program Design: Ability to create curriculum-based programs (Ideation to Go-To-Market).
- Financial Literacy: Understanding of Section 8 company operations and regulations, and government GFR (General Financial Rules).
- Regional Context: Must be fluent in English to communicate effectively with both rural innovators and global mentors.
