Responsibilities
- To lead a team of operators
- Set up, operate, and tend continuous casting machines that produce copper and alloy rods to exact specifications.
- Monitor and control the flow of molten copper and alloys from the furnace into the casting system.
- Observe process control instruments, such as pyrometers and gauges, to regulate temperature and speed and ensure optimal casting conditions.
- Charge the melting furnace with cathode copper and other alloying materials, ensuring accurate measurements and proper composition.
- Prepare and maintain the casting molds or dies, including proper cleaning and applying compounds to prevent adhesion.
- Skim impurities and slag from the surface of the molten metal to ensure the purity of the final product.
- Inspect finished rods for surface defects such as cracks or bubbles, and measure dimensions to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Handle finished rods as they exit the casting machine, which may include coiling and preparing them for further processing or storage.
- Perform routine checks, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on casting equipment to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate and detailed production logs and reports, including machine settings, output, and quality control data.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure seamless operations and to address production challenges.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. A vocational qualification or certification in a related field, such as metallurgy, industrial manufacturing, or foundry technology, is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience as a casting operator or in a similar role within a metal processing plant (ferrous or non-ferrous), foundry, or continuous casting operation is highly desired.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy loads, and work in a loud, hot, and fast-paced industrial environment.
Minimum 6–8 years of experience in metal casting or furnace operations, preferably in copper rod or alloy rod plants.
