Carrier Sales/Dispatcher

At JS & Sons Logistics, we're looking for a Dispatcher with hands-on 3PL experience — someone who understands how to work with independent carriers, owner-operators, and carrier companies, rather than someone whose experience has been limited to dispatching a company-owned fleet.

This is an important distinction.

We are not primarily looking for someone who has only managed trucks belonging to an asset-based trucking company.

We want someone who understands the 3PL environment — where every load may involve a different carrier, different equipment, different requirements, and different operational challenges.

You should be comfortable working between freight, carriers, drivers, brokers, and customers, while making sure the load is covered, communicated, tracked, and delivered successfully.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES -

• Coordinate daily freight operations across assigned loads and carrier partners.
• Work directly with third-party carriers, owner-operators, and carrier companies to arrange and manage freight.
• Source and coordinate suitable carrier capacity based on load requirements.
• Communicate pickup, delivery, appointment, equipment, and shipment requirements clearly to carriers and drivers.
• Track shipments from pickup through final delivery.
• Maintain consistent communication with carriers throughout the shipment.
• Follow up on check calls, pickup confirmations, delivery appointments, PODs, and shipment status.
• Monitor OTR freight, FTL movements, and drayage operations as applicable.
• Identify potential delays, missed appointments, breakdowns, detention, layovers, weather disruptions, port delays, and other exceptions.
• Take ownership of operational problems and work with the carrier to find practical solutions.
• Coordinate with internal operations, sales, customers, brokers, and carrier partners when required.
• Maintain accurate load information, tracking updates, documentation, and operational records.
• Ensure PODs, rate confirmations, BOLs, and other required documents are properly followed up.
• Manage multiple shipments simultaneously without losing attention to detail.
• Escalate critical issues quickly and appropriately.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with reliable carrier partners.
• Support the team in improving carrier communication, shipment visibility, and overall execution.

EXPERIENCE -

Relevant experience includes:

• Working for a 3PL, freight brokerage, or logistics provider.
• Managing loads through third-party carrier networks.
• Coordinating with independent carriers, owner-operators, and carrier companies.
• Working with carriers on capacity, availability, equipment, pickup/delivery requirements, and shipment execution.
• Managing multiple carrier relationships rather than dispatching only an internal fleet.
• Experience with OTR / FTL / Drayage is highly valuable.

Company-owned trucks → Company drivers → Company freight

and you primarily dispatched those internal assets, this may not be the right fit.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with:

3PL / Brokerage → External Carrier → Driver → Shipper / Receiver

You should understand how to work with carriers who are not part of your own fleet and how to keep those relationships, communications, and shipments moving effectively.

EXPECTATIONS -

• 2+ years of relevant experience in U.S. logistics / 3PL / freight brokerage / carrier operations.
• Strong understanding of U.S. trucking and freight operations.
• Hands-on experience working with third-party carriers.
• Understanding of OTR, FTL, equipment types, appointments, detention, layovers, tracking, and common U.S. trucking terminology.
• Strong communication and follow-up skills.
• Ability to manage multiple loads and carrier conversations simultaneously.
• Strong problem-solving ability and operational ownership.
• Ability to work under pressure and make decisions quickly.
• Good knowledge of MS Excel / Google Sheets and TMS, load boards, tracking systems, or carrier portals.
• Willingness to work in U.S. time zones / night shifts, as required.
• Previous experience in a 3PL or freight brokerage environment.
• Strong existing understanding of carrier-side operations.
• Experience working with multiple carrier companies rather than a single internal fleet.
• Experience handling OTR + Drayage.
• Familiarity with U.S. freight lanes and equipment.
• Strong carrier communication and relationship-management skills.
• Ability to identify operational risks before they turn into service failures.
• Someone who doesn't wait for problems to become urgent — you see them coming and act early.
