Job Description

KEY RESULTS: 1. To inspect and maintain the canal with proper and uniform coating thickness during production in order to have consistent production with right quality. 2. To authorize the start of each cycle of casting machine operation after ensuring correct canal location, required metal temperature and proper flow of inoculation. 3. To apply grease on the iron cutter at the right frequency in order to avoid metal sticking with it, resulting easy release of pipe from the mould. 4. To clean, recoat and prepare the canal after each production shift in order to make it ready for the following day production without delay. 5. To remove the sticking metal strip from the canal spout and fall chute, if necessary to grind the sticking metal piece, touch-up the damaged canal. 6. To follow all safety precautions and procedures and to wear the necessary personal protection equipment. Split  JOB CONTEXT: ➢ The canal maintenance plays an important role in the casting machine production efficiency. ➢ The observation of canal condition and the right action at the right time with the right procedure improves the quality of the pipe, efficiency of casting machine and life of canal ➢ The proper canal coating: ▪ Increases production duration between recoating. ▪ Minimize the damage to canal and increases its life. ▪ Minimize the delay between each cycle of operation and increases productivity. ▪ Minimize rejection due to socket inclusion and repair. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School final with fluency in English to read and write. 5 yrs. practical experience probably in Foundry job involving exposure to the heat of molten metal. Desirable to have 2 yrs. working experience in Centrifugal casting spun pipe plant in canal operation. COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIP: ➢ To get instruction from Casting foreman regarding the day to day activities. ➢ To inform the foreman any problems in the process and equipment breakdowns and follow his advice. 3 ➢ To inform and advise Melting section to stop and start metal delivery based on the disturbance in Casting machine operation. ➢ To explain the trouble shooters in detail the nature of repair to be done on the canal spout and fall chute after production. 

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY: ➢ Depending upon the canal condition to decide when to scrap the sticking coating, recoat as per the procedure at the shortest time and pre-heat by pouring a little quantity of molten metal from the hopper to ensure a good and uniform thickness. ➢ If the level of liquid metal in the hopper is below the requirement, then to tilt and adjust the level in order to get the correct quantity of metal to the pipe. ➢ After canal coating, to inform and request for metal from melting section at the right time. ➢ To fulfil any specific instruction of the Casting foreman during non-production day. MAJOR CHALLENGES FACED: ➢ The understanding and following the procedure demonstrated by Pont-A-Mousson expert to scrap, clean, recoat and maintain the canal coating was the challenges faced during 1992. ➢ To work continuously of 8 hrs in our environment with hazardous : ➢ Exposure to heat of molten metal. ➢ Exposure to chemical fumes, carbon and inoculant dust. ➢ To improve the quality of coating in order to have prolonged operation between canal cleaning and coating. ➢ To complete the canal re-coating duration at the shortest time.
