Job Description

As a CAE Intern, you will contribute to the analysis, validation, and optimization of mechanical components and robotic subsystems using simulation-driven engineering. You will work closely with the mechanical design team to ensure structural integrity, durability, and performance of real-world robotic systems deployed in demanding environments.
This role will provide hands-on experience in applying engineering simulation tools to real robotics products, bridging the gap between design and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis (static, dynamic, fatigue) on mechanical components using FEA tools

  • Conduct stress, strain, deformation, and factor-of-safety analysis for robot chassis, mounts, and assemblies.

  • Assist in vibration analysis and modal studies to improve mechanical stability

  • Support thermal analysis for electronics enclosures and power systems

  • Validate designs against real-world operating conditions (impact, shock, environmental loads)

  • Work closely with the design team to optimize parts for weight reduction and manufacturability (DFM/D2M alignment)

  • Interpret simulation results and recommend design improvements

  • Assist in tolerance stack-up analysis and mechanical fitment validation

  • Support failure analysis and root cause investigations

  • Document simulation methodology, assumptions, boundary conditions, and validation results clearly

Requirements
  • Strong understanding of mechanics of materials and engineering fundamentals

  • Familiarity with FEA tools (ANSYS / SolidWorks Simulation / Abaqus / HyperMesh or similar)

  • Basic knowledge of stress analysis, material behavior, and load conditions

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (laser cutting, CNC, sheet metal, welding)

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and CAD models

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with design and manufacturing teams

  • Self-motivated with a passion for mechanical design and validation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing structural or thermal simulations on real mechanical systems

  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis and vibration behavior

  • Exposure to robotics or mobility systems

  • Understanding of kinematics and dynamic systems

  • Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance analysis.

Benefits
  • Hands-on experience working on real-world robotics products deployed in field environments

  • Exposure to full product lifecycle (Design Analysis Manufacturing Deployment)

  • Learning opportunities in structural validation, optimization, and D2M workflows

  • Collaborative environment with a passionate engineering team

  • Networking opportunities with robotics and mechanical industry professionals

  • Flexible work culture and potential for full-time opportunities
