Job Description

Job Descriptions CAD Specialist II (CREO / UGNX)

Experience Bands: 2–6 Years

Domain: Aerospace / Electronic Test

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer with 2–6 years of experience in CREO and/or UGNX to support the design and detailing of Rack & Stack systems, mechanical sub-assemblies, holding fixtures, vibration fixtures, and panels used in electronic test equipment for the aerospace industry. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in 3D modeling, 2D manufacturing drawings, assembly detailing, and engineering documentation, with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and compliance with aerospace documentation practices.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and update 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CREO and/or UGNX for Rack & Stack systems, mechanical sub-assemblies, holding fixtures, vibration fixtures, and panels.
  • Prepare detailed assembly drawings, part drawings, fabrication drawings, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings for electronic test equipment and aerospace test setups.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including Bill of Materials (BOM), part lists, exploded views, section views, tolerance callouts, and revision-controlled drawing packages.
  • Interpret design inputs, interface requirements, and system constraints to generate accurate and manufacturable mechanical designs.
  • Support design of racks, enclosures, mounting structures, brackets, panels, and fixture components used for test system integration.
  • Ensure designs comply with internal drafting standards, customer requirements, GD&T practices, and aerospace quality/documentation expectations.
  • Coordinate with electrical, test, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure proper fit, form, function, and integration of mechanical assemblies.
  • Incorporate design changes, engineering change requests, redlines, and build feedback into released drawings and models.
  • Support prototype builds, fit checks, shop-floor clarifications, and drawing corrections during integration and testing stages.
  • Verify design details such as material selection, sheet metal features, fasteners, mounting provisions, cutouts, clearances, access, manufacturability, and structural support requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and drafting using CREO and/or UGNX.
  • Hands-on experience in preparing drawings for Rack & Stack systems, mechanical sub-assemblies, holding fixtures, vibration fixtures, and panels.
  • Strong understanding of 3D modeling, assembly modeling, 2D detailing, drawing standards, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design, machined parts, structural assemblies, brackets, enclosures, and mounting arrangements.
  • Good understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up basics, fits, material specifications, and drawing interpretation.
  • Experience working in electronic test equipment, aerospace, defense, or high-reliability engineering environments is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, interface documents, and manufacturing requirements.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to aerospace design/documentation practices and configuration-controlled environments.
  • Experience in fixture design for holding, alignment, vibration, or test support applications.
  • Knowledge of mechanical integration for electronic racks, consoles, cabinets, and test benches.
  • Familiarity with BOM management, revision control, and document release processes through PLM/PDM systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, finishing, and assembly.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and support prototype-to-production activities.

Key Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in mechanical design documentation.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple drawing updates and design tasks within project timelines.
  • Effective communication and coordination with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Commitment to quality, compliance, and configuration control.
