Role Overview:
We are looking for a CAD Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design for aerospace and UAV subsystems, from early concept through prototyping and iteration. The role involves translating high-level system requirements into detailed, manufacturable designs while balancing performance, weight, cost, and reliability. The position requires hands-on involvement in prototyping, testing, and refining designs based on real-world feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, and subassemblies using Fusion 360 with a focus on design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Generate detailed 2D drawings with proper tolerances, fits, and annotations for production
- Design and optimize components for weight, strength, thermal considerations, and structural integrity
- Perform iterative design improvements based on prototype testing, failures, and field data
- Collaborate with electronics and systems teams to ensure proper integration of sensors, wiring, and control systems
- Maintain organized design documentation, version control, and revision history
- Support rapid prototyping efforts (3D printing, CNC, etc.) and assist in build/assembly when required
Requirements:
- 1–2 years of hands-on CAD experience
- Proficiency in Fusion 360
- Background in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of materials and material selection
- Familiarity with simulation tools (FEA basics preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Experience managing design revisions and version control
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with jet engine components
- Hands-on experience with UAV systems
- Prior experience in UAV design and development
- Exposure to aerodynamic design considerations
- Experience working in rapid prototyping environments
