Position Summary

The Business Development Manager - Oncology is responsible for driving strategic market expansion, clinical adoption, and revenue growth for oncology-focused genomics and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) solutions. Based in Mumbai, this role plays a critical part in expanding Thermo Fisher Scientific's presence within the precision oncology ecosystem, working closely with molecular pathology laboratories, cancer centers, hospitals, diagnostic networks, and reference laboratories. The position collaborates cross-functionally with sales, marketing, medical affairs, and global business teams to accelerate oncology NGS adoption and support long-term growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Growth Strategy

  • Develop and execute business development strategies to expand adoption of oncology genomics and NGS solutions.
  • Identify and nurture new business opportunities, strategic accounts, and clinical partnerships in oncology diagnostics.
  • Own growth initiatives aligned to regional and national oncology business objectives.
  • Drive expansion of oncology workflows across solid tumors, hematological malignancies, and translational oncology applications.

Go-to-Market & Commercial Enablement

  • Partner with commercial leadership to define and implement go-to-market strategies for oncology genomics solutions.
  • Support new product introductions (NPIs), solution launches, and portfolio expansion initiatives.
  • Contribute to development of value propositions, pricing inputs, and proposal strategies for complex oncology opportunities.
  • Enable sales and application teams with oncology-specific clinical messaging and positioning.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with oncologists, molecular pathologists, lab directors, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
  • Engage major stakeholders across cancer centers, hospitals, diagnostic chains, and reference laboratories.
  • Establish and support reference sites and strategic collaborations to strengthen clinical credibility and adoption.
  • Partner with applications and medical affairs teams to support scientific discussions, clinical validation, and evidence generation.

Market Development & Insights

  • Conduct market intelligence, workflow analysis, and customer needs assessments within the oncology diagnostics space.
  • Track evolving precision oncology trends, reimbursement landscapes, and competitive dynamics.
  • Provide structured insights and recommendations to regional and global stakeholders to inform strategy and portfolio decisions.
  • Support channel partners and commercial teams with oncology domain expertise and opportunity qualification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of oncology genomics, NGS workflows, and molecular pathology applications.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific and clinical concepts into clear business and clinical value propositions.
  • Demonstrated strength in strategic thinking, opportunity building, and stakeholder influence.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • High learning agility with a strong interest in precision oncology and personalized medicine.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed, cross-functional environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Oncology, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in business development, sales, or commercial roles within oncology diagnostics, NGS, or molecular pathology.
  • Strong, hands-on experience working in the oncology segment, preferably in NGS-based or molecular pathology solutions.
  • Proven experience engaging clinical customers, cancer centers, and diagnostic laboratories.
  • Track record of driving market expansion and strategic growth initiatives in complex clinical environments.
