Job Description
The Commercial Distribution Division drives the growth of UOI's commercial insurance business across multiple channels, including Bancassurance, Intermediaries, and Direct. The division is also responsible for service excellence, strengthening customer relationships, and enhancing UOI's market presence and brand recognition.
Job Purpose
The Business Development Lead (Intermediary) is responsible for driving revenue growth through the Agents and Brokers channels. The role focuses on developing and executing growth strategies, building strong intermediary relationships, and identifying opportunities to expand UOI's commercial insurance portfolio in a profitable and sustainable manner.
Main Responsibilities
Intermediary Business Development
- Develop and execute the commercial intermediary growth strategy, including acquisition, retention, and expansion of Agent and Broker relationships.
- Identify new business and product opportunities prepare business cases covering sales potential, profitability, and strategic fit.
- Assess, onboard, and manage intermediaries through structured frameworks to drive sustainable revenue.
- Own and manage the commercial sales pipeline, including opportunity development, negotiations, and conversion.
- Leverage market trends, competitor insights, and intermediary feedback to strengthen UOI's value proposition and competitive positioning.
- Partner with underwriting and product teams to align market intelligence, pricing competitiveness, and product suitability.
Channel Management
- Manage end-to-end commercial intermediary engagement to position UOI as a preferred long-term partner.
- Set, monitor, and report production and profitability targets, including budgeting, forecasting, and channel-level performance analysis.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, commercial agreements, and engagement frameworks to support scalable and compliant channel growth.
- Lead intermediary communications and training, including product updates, operational matters, GIA circulars, and CPD initiatives.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory, legal, and internal governance requirements while maximising channel profitability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in insurance sales, preferably in commercial/general insurance.
- Strong relationship management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated sales and negotiation capability, with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
- Good understanding of insurance regulations, market dynamics, and intermediary operations.
- Ability to deliver structured and effective training to intermediaries.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
- Relevant insurance certifications are an advantage.
