Business Development Manager – Industrial Heavy Machinery domain

Chennai

Role Overview:

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market presence, and developing strategic client relationships within the industrial heavy machinery sector. This role focuses on identifying new business opportunities, managing key accounts, and promoting solutions such as construction equipment, manufacturing machinery, mining equipment, or industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Sales Growth

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities across target industries (construction, manufacturing, mining, energy, etc.).
  • Drive end-to-end sales cycle: lead generation, proposal, negotiation, and closure.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve revenue and market share targets.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth areas.

2. Client & Account Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with OEMs, contractors, EPC companies, and industrial clients.
  • Manage key accounts and ensure long-term partnerships.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries, RFQs, and contract discussions.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.

3. Technical & Product Alignment

  • Understand heavy machinery specifications (e.g., hydraulics, engines, structural systems, automation, etc.).
  • Coordinate with engineering, product, and operations teams to align solutions with client requirements.
  • Provide technical presentations and product demonstrations to clients.

4. Market Expansion & Strategy

  • Identify new markets, geographies, and industry segments for expansion.
  • Develop channel partnerships, distributors, or dealer networks where applicable.
  • Support go-to-market strategies for new product launches.

5. Proposal & Contract Management

  • Prepare commercial proposals, pricing strategies, and tender documentation.
  • Lead contract negotiations, ensuring profitability and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with legal and finance teams for compliance and contract finalization.

6. Forecasting & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate sales pipeline and forecasts.
  • Track KPIs such as revenue, margins, conversion rates, and customer acquisition.
  • Provide regular reporting to leadership on business performance and market insights.

7. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal teams including engineering, procurement, logistics, and after-sales service.
  • Ensure timely delivery, installation, and customer support for machinery.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) preferred
  • MBA or equivalent (optional but advantageous)

Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience in business development or sales within industrial heavy machinery or equipment sector
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and closing large deals
  • Experience working with OEMs, EPC firms, or large industrial clients

Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of industrial equipment such as:

  • Construction equipment (excavators, loaders, cranes)
  • Manufacturing machinery
  • Mining or material handling equipment
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings

Soft Skills:

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Relationship management and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
