BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – FLEXIBLE PACKAGING

Ltd. is an established flexible packaging manufacturer with expertise in printed laminates, pouches, vacuum packaging, high-barrier packaging, stand-up and zipper pouches, spouted pouches and other customized packaging solutions. The company serves customers across food, FMCG, pharmaceutical, dairy, frozen food, QSR, nutraceutical and other industries, with both domestic and international markets.
Role Objective
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for generating new business, acquiring new customers and expanding Shakoflex's presence in the Mumbai and Western India market.
The person will identify prospective customers, develop relationships with decision-makers, understand their packaging requirements, coordinate technical trials and quotations, and convert opportunities into profitable recurring business.
Key Responsibilities
1. New Business Development
- Identify and develop new customers in FMCG, food, dairy, frozen foods, meat & poultry, snacks, confectionery, pharma, nutraceutical, QSR, pet food, cosmetics and other relevant sectors.
- Build a strong pipeline of prospective customers and continuously generate new leads.
- Conduct regular customer visits and business meetings.
- Identify upcoming brands, startups and established companies requiring flexible packaging.
- Convert prospects into trials, commercial orders and long-term accounts.
2. Customer Relationship Management
- Develop strong relationships with Purchase, Packaging Development, R&D, Quality, Operations, Marketing and senior management teams of customers.
- Understand customer packaging problems and recommend suitable Shakoflex solutions.
- Maintain regular contact with existing customers and identify opportunities for increasing share of business.
- Handle customer complaints and coordinate internally for timely resolution.
3. Technical & Commercial Coordination
- Understand customer requirements relating to:
- PET / BOPP / BOPA / Nylon / CPP / PE / Aluminium foil structures
- Vacuum packaging
- High-barrier packaging
- Stand-up and zipper pouches
- Spouted pouches
- Printed roll stock
- Digital printing
- Frozen and refrigerated food packaging
- Retort and specialty packaging
- Coordinate with Technical, Production, Quality and Design teams for development and trials.
- Prepare quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms and commercial conditions.
- Ensure that business generated meets the company's required margins.
4. Sales Pipeline & Target Management
- Maintain a systematic sales funnel covering:
- Lead → Meeting → Requirement → Sampling → Trial → Commercial Quote → Negotiation → Order → Repeat Business
- Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets.
- Track enquiry conversion ratios, new customer acquisition and repeat business.
- Submit weekly sales reports and pipeline updates to management.
- Maintain accurate CRM/customer records.
5. Market Intelligence
- Monitor competitors, pricing, new packaging technologies and market developments.
- Identify high-potential packaging applications and industries.
- Track competitor activity and customer movement in the Mumbai/Western India market.
- Identify opportunities for Shakoflex's newer and higher-value packaging solutions.
6. Strategic Account Development
- Develop selected high-potential accounts into major recurring customers.
- Increase Shakoflex's share of wallet within existing accounts.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across pouches, laminates, films, digital printing and specialty packaging.
- Build relationships with senior decision-makers and packaging influencers.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The BDM will be evaluated primarily on:
- New customers acquired
- New business revenue generated
- Monthly/annual sales achievement
- Gross contribution / profitability
- Number of qualified new leads
- Number of customer meetings
- Number of trials initiated
- Trial-to-order conversion
- Repeat business generated
- New industries/accounts developed
- Collection/payment discipline
Candidate Profile
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Packaging or a related field.
- MBA/PGDM in Marketing or Sales is an advantage.
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in B2B sales/business development.
- Experience in flexible packaging, printing, laminates, films, FMCG packaging or related industries is strongly preferred.
- Candidates with strong relationships in FMCG, food, pharma, dairy, QSR or frozen-food companies will be preferred.
Skills Required
- Strong B2B sales and business-development capability.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to independently generate leads and open new accounts.
- Commercial understanding of pricing and margins.
- Basic understanding of flexible packaging structures and applications.

The ideal candidate should be a hunter rather than only an account manager—someone who can independently identify prospects, get meetings with decision-makers, create packaging opportunities, coordinate trials and aggressively convert opportunities into recurring business.
