Job Description
Project Role : Business Architect
Project Role Description : Identify opportunities to deliver tangible business value by assessing the current state, capturing high-level requirements, and defining business solutions. Translate business needs into technology-enabled solutions and operating models. Support transformation by developing business cases and guiding implementation of key initiatives.
Must have skills : SAP TM Transportation Management
Good to have skills : NA
Minimum 15 Year(s) Of Experience Is Required
Educational Qualification : 15 years full time education
Summary:
As an SAP TM Business Architect, you will hold design authority and delivery accountability for the process area, leading multiple workstreams through their Managers while remaining personally hands-on on the hardest design and configuration for Transportation Management (also covers 3PL Integration) within the Supply chain & logistics tower of the DRS SAP programme. The role exists to design transportation management and carrier integration, translating freight cost, service commitment and network constraint into a solution planners will adopt.
You carry delivery risk for the process area and are expected to enter a drifting workstream, establish an evidenced position and reset the plan. You remain hands-on: the most difficult design and configuration work is yours, as is the review gate before work leaves the process area. Quality, defect trend and release readiness sit with you, together with the AI standard and the technical development of the Managers you lead.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Scope & Decision Rights: Hold design authority for the process area and remain hands-on. The hardest design calls are taken by you personally, and you prove the pattern before the team builds to it. You approve decisions that carry downstream cost, hold the review gate on work leaving the process area, set the quality gates Managers deliver to, and own the delivery risk position reported to programme governance.
Transportation Network Design: Define and configure the transportation network: locations, transportation lanes, zones, means of transport and the master data model behind planning.
Planning & Optimisation: Design freight unit building rules, planning profiles and VSR optimiser settings, and tune planning outcomes against cost and service objectives.
Carrier Selection & Freight Settlement: Configure freight agreements, rate tables, charge calculation, carrier selection and the freight settlement flow into MM and Finance.
3PL & Carrier Integration: Own carrier and 3PL integration, including EDI and B2B message flows and track-and-trace. This module also carries 3PL Integration for the tower.
Integration & Dependencies: Work with EWM for loading and unloading, with Order Management and Returns for delivery flow, with Inventory for stock movement and with Finance for freight cost settlement.
Solution & Delivery Governance: Own solution design and delivery quality across the process area: set the design standards, approve decisions carrying downstream cost, and hold accountability for delivery risk, defect trend and release readiness across workstreams.
Delivery Recovery Leadership: Lead recovery of stressed workstreams, including transportation planning producing results planners override, or freight settlement disputes accumulating: establish an evidenced position, re-plan, reallocate, remove the structural cause and report a defensible trajectory to programme leadership.
AI-Native Delivery Standards & Joule Governance: Define how AI is applied across the process area, including AI-assisted network design analysis, cost-to-serve modelling and carrier performance analytics govern the accelerator library, set validation and IP controls, and report productivity and quality outcomes. Set the standard for SAP Joule for Consultants use and the governance of its grounding content, and decide where a Joule agent is warranted against standard configuration, holding the specification and acceptance standard with the AI and AIDLC tower.
Executive & Client Engagement: Represent the process area in client leadership and programme governance forums, defend design decisions, and negotiate scope and timeline against capacity.
Professional & Technical Skills:
SAP TM Configuration: Design authority over embedded or standalone TM: freight unit building, planning profiles, freight orders and freight settlement.
Transportation Network Modelling: Recognised design authority in locations, lanes, zones, means of transport and the master data that drives planning outcomes.
Charge Calculation & Agreements: Expert-level expertise in freight agreements, rate tables and charge calculation, including settlement into MM and FI.
Carrier Integration: Extensive experience with carrier and 3PL integration through EDI, B2B or network services, including message error handling.
Business Architecture: Proven capability to assess the current transportation operation, capture requirements, define the target operating model and build the business case behind it.
Optimisation Judgement: Extensive experience tuning planning and optimiser behaviour toward outcomes planners adopt, not merely outcomes that execute.
Hands-On Technical Depth: Current, hands-on command of the primary skill. This is a working design authority role, not an oversight role: the hardest configuration in the process area is expected to be done by the post-holder.
Hands-On Currency: Hands-on configuration or design-level build work on the primary skill within the last 24 months. Advisory, pre-sales, governance or oversight-only experience during that period does not satisfy this requirement. Where recent experience is advisory, a technical validation forms part of selection.
Technical Mentoring & Capability Building: Demonstrated development of Managers and senior engineers through design review, pairing and codified patterns, evidenced by capability the team retained rather than output the individual delivered.
AI-Enabled Delivery Leadership: Demonstrated definition of AI standards across an SAP delivery team or tower, including validation controls, accelerator ownership and measured productivity outcomes.
SAP Joule for Consultants & Agent Governance: Working use of SAP Joule for Consultants and the capability to set how a team uses it, covering grounding content curation and client-confidentiality controls, together with the judgement to determine where a Joule agent is warranted against standard configuration. Equivalent experience setting AI tooling standards for a delivery team is accepted in place of prior Joule exposure, with working proficiency expected within 90 days of joining.
Evidence of AI Adoption: Demonstrable record of raising delivery productivity through AI or equivalent means: AI assistant adoption, delivery accelerators, reference architectures or codified playbooks built for reuse across teams, with measurable effect on throughput or quality.
Multi-Workstream Delivery & Recovery: Demonstrated leadership across multiple SAP workstreams, including at least one engagement behind plan or under quality pressure, with personal accountability for the recovery.
Executive Stakeholder Management: Credible in client leadership forums, with demonstrated capability to make and defend design and delivery decisions under incomplete information and commercial pressure.

SAP Global Trade Services and dangerous goods handling
