Job Description
Project Role : Business Architect
Project Role Description : Identify opportunities to deliver tangible business value by assessing the current state, capturing high-level requirements, and defining business solutions. Translate business needs into technology-enabled solutions and operating models. Support transformation by developing business cases and guiding implementation of key initiatives.
Must have skills : SAP TM Transportation Management
Good to have skills : NA
Minimum 7.5 Year(s) Of Experience Is Required
Educational Qualification : 15 years full time education
Summary:
As an SAP TM Business Architect, you will execute configuration, build and test work to an approved design, accountable for the quality of your own deliverables for Transportation Management (also covers 3PL Integration) within the Supply chain & logistics tower of the DRS SAP programme. The role exists to design transportation management and carrier integration, translating freight cost, service commitment and network constraint into a solution planners will adopt.
Delivery quality is personal at this level. Performance is assessed on configuration that holds under integration test, on defect recurrence, and on documentation complete enough for another engineer to assume ownership. AI-assisted engineering is expected as standard practice, with every generated output validated before transport.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Scope & Decision Rights: Execute within an approved design. You determine how a configuration item is built, tested and documented design changes, scope calls and estimates are escalated to the workstream lead.
Transportation Network Design: Apply and configure the transportation network: locations, transportation lanes, zones, means of transport and the master data model behind planning.
Planning & Optimisation: Configure freight unit building rules, planning profiles and VSR optimiser settings, and tune planning outcomes against cost and service objectives.
Carrier Selection & Freight Settlement: Configure freight agreements, rate tables, charge calculation, carrier selection and the freight settlement flow into MM and Finance.
3PL & Carrier Integration: Execute and maintain carrier and 3PL integration, including EDI and B2B message flows and track-and-trace. This module also carries 3PL Integration for the tower.
Integration & Dependencies: Work with EWM for loading and unloading, with Order Management and Returns for delivery flow, with Inventory for stock movement and with Finance for freight cost settlement.
Delivery Execution & Quality: Deliver assigned configuration, build and test items against sprint commitments, with configuration rationale, unit test evidence and cutover steps documented to handover standard.
Defect Diagnosis & Resolution: Investigate defects and incidents affecting transportation planning producing results planners override, or freight settlement disputes accumulating, isolating root cause across configuration, master data and interface layers and confirming resolution through regression.
AI-Assisted Engineering & Joule: Apply AI assistants to analyse planning and charge configuration, generate transport scenario test cases and summarise settlement variance, validating every generated output against system behaviour before transport. Use SAP Joule for Consultants for configuration guidance and troubleshooting, and flag manual steps in the module that are candidates for a Joule agent.
Knowledge Transfer: Document reusable configuration patterns, support analysts joining the workstream, and escalate blockers promptly.
Collaboration: Work with functional leads, test teams and downstream modules, reporting item status in terms of delivery impact.
Professional & Technical Skills:
Must-Have Skills
SAP TM Configuration: Hands-on configuration of embedded or standalone TM: freight unit building, planning profiles, freight orders and freight settlement.
Transportation Network Modelling: Working expertise in locations, lanes, zones, means of transport and the master data that drives planning outcomes.
Charge Calculation & Agreements: Working expertise in freight agreements, rate tables and charge calculation, including settlement into MM and FI.
Carrier Integration: Practical experience with carrier and 3PL integration through EDI, B2B or network services, including message error handling.
Business Architecture: Capability to assess the current transportation operation, capture requirements, define the target operating model and build the business case behind it.
Optimisation Judgement: Practical experience tuning planning and optimiser behaviour toward outcomes planners adopt, not merely outcomes that execute.
AI-Assisted Delivery: Evidenced use of AI coding and analysis assistants in live SAP delivery, demonstrable through the specific outputs produced and the validation applied.
SAP Joule for Consultants: Working use of SAP Joule for Consultants in configuration and troubleshooting, including verification of the guidance returned against actual system behaviour. Where prior Joule exposure is absent, working proficiency is expected within 90 days of joining.
Evidence of AI Adoption: Demonstrable adoption of AI in delivery work. This may be evidenced through use of AI coding or analysis assistants, or through equivalent contribution such as reusable accelerators, scripted automation of recurring delivery tasks, or codified patterns adopted by others.
Delivery Discipline: Record of meeting sprint commitments on an enterprise SAP programme, with defect and rework rates that withstood review.
Ownership & Communication: Capable of working an ambiguous defect to root cause independently and of stating clearly when a committed date is at risk.
Good to Have Skills
SAP Business Network for Logistics and Global Track and Trace
SAP Global Trade Services and dangerous goods handling
Transportation cost and service analytics
Multi-modal and international freight scenarios
Additional Information:
A 15-year full-time education is required, as stated in the approved demand record.
Minimum 7.5 years of experience on the primary skill, as specified in the approved demand record.
Hands-on configuration and build experience across at least one full SAP implementation or major rollout.
Specific, evidenced examples of AI-assisted work in a production SAP delivery context.
Working proficiency in SAP Joule for Consultants, either held on appointment or achieved within 90 days of joining.
