Role Overview

We are looking for a Manufacturing Domain Expert / Process Transformation Consultant with strong hands-on knowledge of manufacturing plant operations, preferably in Steel / Metals / Heavy Engineering.

The person will work closely with the client's plant and business teams to understand the current operating processes, identify gaps and inefficiencies, define improved To-Be processes, and translate these into business and technology requirements.

The role requires a combination of manufacturing domain expertise, process consulting, business analysis and understanding of software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Assessment

Visit the client's Hosur plant and study the end-to-end manufacturing operations, including:

• Production planning and scheduling
• Raw material planning, procurement and inventory
• Inbound material receiving and inspection
• Stores and warehouse operations
• Material movement and traceability
• BOM (Bill of Materials) / product structure and material consumption
• Production / shop-floor operations
• Work orders and production reporting
• Quality inspection and quality management
• Rework, rejection and scrap management
• Equipment / machine utilization
• Preventive and breakdown maintenance
• Dispatch and logistics
• Production costing and operational reporting
• Management MIS and performance reporting

Understand how people, processes, machines, data and existing applications interact across these functions.

As-Is & Gap Analysis

• Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops and shop-floor observations.
• Document detailed As-Is processes, workflows, roles, systems and dependencies.
• Identify manual activities, bottlenecks, duplication, delays and control gaps.
• Identify gaps in applications, data, reporting, integration and automation.
• Understand the root cause of operational problems rather than only documenting symptoms.
• Assess opportunities for process standardization, digitization and automation.

To-Be Process & Transformation

• Design practical To-Be processes aligned with business objectives.
• Simplify and standardize processes wherever possible.
• Define improved workflows, roles, controls, data requirements and system touchpoints.
• Identify opportunities for ERP, MES, workflow, BI, IoT, automation and AI-based solutions where relevant.
• Define measurable business outcomes such as productivity improvement, reduced cycle time, better inventory visibility, improved quality, reduced manual effort and better decision-making.

Business & Technology Requirements

Translate the identified business needs into clear technology requirements, including:

• Business and functional requirements
• Process maps and workflows
• User requirements / use cases
• Application requirements
• Integration requirements
• Data and reporting requirements
• Dashboard / KPI requirements
• Automation opportunities
• Non-functional requirements

RFP / Vendor Evaluation

• Prepare RFI/RFP/RFQ documentation for addressing identified process and technology gaps.
• Define scope, requirements, expected deliverables and implementation expectations.
• Develop vendor evaluation criteria and assessment framework.
• Support solution/vendor evaluation and discussions.
• Work with technology teams to ensure proposed solutions address the actual business and process requirements.

Required Experience

• 8–10 years of experience in manufacturing operations, manufacturing consulting, process transformation or manufacturing technology.
• Strong practical understanding of plant/shop-floor processes.
• Experience in Steel, Metals, Heavy Engineering, Automotive or similar manufacturing industries is preferred.
• Strong experience in As-Is / To-Be process mapping and gap analysis.
• Good understanding of ERP, MES, SCM, WMS, Quality, Maintenance and BI systems.
• Strong Business Analysis and requirements-gathering skills.
• Exposure to software development, application architecture or technology solutions is an advantage.
• Experience in preparing RFPs and working with technology vendors is preferred.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should be able to independently walk into a manufacturing plant, understand the existing operations, engage with plant stakeholders, identify process gaps, define the right future-state process, and translate the requirements into a technology/RFP roadmap.

The candidate must be comfortable working directly with plant personnel and senior business stakeholders.
