Business Analyst – Capital Markets (Finance IT) - Mumbai

Position overview

The OMR application supports the settlement and local‑booking lifecycle for the ALMT business line. The Business Analyst in the ALMT IT team will own the functional design, specification, testing and support of OMR and its surrounding interfaces, ensuring that the solution meets the needs of operations, risk and the broader business. The role works in an agile environment, collaborates closely with product owners, developers, testers and offshore/on‑site BAs, and provides L3 functional support when required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Liaise with functional and technical stakeholders (product owners, business users, offshore BAs) to capture, clarify and document business requirements.
  • Produce detailed functional specifications, UML design artefacts and prototype proofs‑of‑concept for development teams.
  • Create and maintain test plans; execute integration, regression, performance and functional testing using automated frameworks.
  • Review functional specs, test cases and test results prepared by the IT team; perform peer‑reviews.
  • Conduct user‑acceptance testing (UAT) and support delivery of functional releases, including release documentation.
  • Provide functional guidance and assistance to developers and testers throughout the software‑development lifecycle.
  • Deliver end‑user training sessions and create knowledge‑transfer material for the OMR application.
  • Estimate effort, track progress and ensure deadlines are met while adhering to project and organizational standards.
  • Participate in out‑of‑hours or on‑call support, providing L3 functional assistance and rapid issue resolution.
  • Identify and drive process‑improvement initiatives, innovation ideas and efficiency‑boosting practices.
  • Support recruitment activities for the team and broader organization.
  • Suggest and prototype new practices or tools that could enhance the settlement workflow.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to solve complex functional problems and ensure compliance with organizational policies.

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Solid understanding of capital‑markets activities, financial products, trade life‑cycle and SWIFT MT messages.
  • Minimum 4–6 years as a Business Analyst in the finance/settlement space, preferably with exposure to back‑office settlement systems.
  • Strong SQL query writing and data‑analysis skills.
  • Good grasp of the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and agile delivery models.
  • Ability to translate complex business concepts into clear functional specifications; excellent documentation, presentation and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, good team player, comfortable working under pressure and eager to continuously learn new technologies and frameworks.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

  • Experience with treasury functions, cash‑reconciliation processes, or related back‑office settlement activities.
  • Exposure to other back‑office settlement systems or similar large‑scale financial applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and active participation in all Agile ceremonies (scrum, kanban, sprint reviews, etc.).
  • Additional certifications (e.g., ISTQB, CBAP, Agile Scrum Master) or specialized training in financial systems.
