We are seeking a skilled Building Controls Technician to support the deployment, upgrade, and ongoing operation of smart building and energy management infrastructure. This role focuses on the design, configuration, installation, testing, and commissioning of building control and monitoring systems, including LoRaWAN-based networks supporting HVAC, water, gas, and electrical metering across commercial properties.
Responsibilities:
Perform site surveys to document existing HVAC, electrical, water, gas, and building automation systems, network infrastructure, and control points
Design, configure, and deploy building control and monitoring architectures, including LoRaWAN, BMS, meters, sensors, and gateways
Configure and commission water, gas, and electrical metering systems for real-time usage tracking, analytics, and fault detection
Research, evaluate, and validate new field devices, including sensors, submeters, controllers, and IoT hardware
Maintain detailed project documentation, including network diagrams, control sequences, point lists, redlines, and as-built drawings
Perform system commissioning, functional testing, trending, and QA/QC verification for all control and monitoring systems
Provide end-user training, system documentation, and technical support during project turnover
Support physical installation, wiring, device setup, and system startup
Interface with clients, contractors, and utilities, providing project coordination and technical expertise
Mentor and train junior technicians on building controls and monitoring technologies
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, commissioning, and system start-up
Experience deploying LoRaWAN devices, sensors, and gateways preferred
Technical knowledge of control system installations, HVAC controls, and metering device configuration
Experience with energy, water, or utility monitoring systems preferred
Working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and energy monitoring platforms
Working knowledge of communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LoRaWAN
Strong HVAC systems and control sequences knowledge
Hands-on experience with building automation systems (BAS/BMS)
Expertise in commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting
Experience with electrical, water, and gas metering
Ability to analyze energy and utility data for performance and waste
Ability to troubleshoot sensors, controllers, networks, and wiring
Familiarity with IoT devices and smart building infrastructure
Ability to lead, train, and mentor technical staff
