Role Description The BIW Fixture Design Engineer will be responsible for designing Body-in-White fixtures for automotive and manufacturing applications, ensuring precision, manufacturability, and robustness. This full-time, on-site role is based in Coimbatore and involves creating 3D models and detailed 2D drawings using CAD tools, performing design reviews, and implementing design changes based on project feedback. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to meet project timelines and quality standards. Daily tasks include interpreting customer specifications, preparing design documentation, supporting fixture validation and try-out, and coordinating with suppliers or internal production teams. The role also involves contributing to continuous improvement, standardization of design practices, and adherence to safety and industry standards.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering, with experience in BIW or related tooling/fixture design.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling and 2D drafting, and ability to work with complex assemblies.
- Understanding of Product Design principles, including DFM/DFA, tolerancing, and material selection for fixtures and tooling.
- Working knowledge of Electrical Engineering interfaces for fixtures (sensors, actuators, clamps) is an advantage.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in automotive BIW fixtures, welding fixtures, or industrial automation projects is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering standards, GD&T, and customer specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively in a project-driven environment.
