Job Description
BITS-RMIT Joint PhD Position (Apply Online on BITS RMIT Portal)
We are inviting applications from highly motivated students/researchers interested in working on next-generation GNSS resilience, anti-spoofing, signal processing, AI/ML and SDR-based navigation systems.
Two research opportunities are currently available:
RMIT COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECT Project ID: BITS025F001497:
Development of Machine Learning-based Jamming and Spoofing Detection for GPS and NavIC Software Receivers
Collaborating Institution: RMIT University, Australia
GNSS signals are vulnerable to jamming and spoofing, creating significant risks for navigation-dependent systems. This project aims to develop an advanced AI/ML-based GNSS threat detection and mitigation framework for GPS and NavIC.
Research will include:
- Machine Learning / Deep Learning for GNSS security
- GPS and NavIC signal processing
- Jamming and spoofing detection
- GNSS Software Defined Radio (SDR)
- Multi-antenna processing and Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) estimation
- Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)
- Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs)
- Reinforcement Learning for adaptive countermeasures
- Synthetic attack generation using the Skydel GNSS simulator
- Analysis of real-world GNSS RF recordings
- Integration and testing with an in-house GNSS software receiver developed for ISRO
- Testing with commercial GNSS receivers
The project will combine AI/ML algorithms with real GNSS signals, SDR platforms and software receivers, with the objective of developing a practical and real-time GNSS security framework.
