Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert (AI Training)
About The Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more scientifically rigorous AI — and we need expert biochemists to make it happen. As a Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert, your deep knowledge of molecular biology, enzyme kinetics, and metabolic systems will directly shape how AI reasons through complex life science problems.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed to fit around your existing commitments. No AI experience needed — just a strong scientific foundation and the ability to think critically.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Problems — Craft challenging biochemistry scenarios across areas like nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, metabolic flux, and drug-target interactions to rigorously test AI reasoning.
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI scientific reasoning — the gold standard the model learns from.
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and quantitative analyses for scientific accuracy, logical consistency, and adherence to established standards.
- Refine AI Reasoning — Identify specific failure modes — such as incorrect stoichiometry, flawed stereochemistry, or misapplied enzyme kinetics — and provide structured feedback to improve how AI thinks through life science problems.
Who You Are
- Advanced Degree: PhD (completed or in progress) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
- Deep Domain Knowledge: Strong grounding in structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, bioinformatics, or related specializations
- Clear Scientific Communicator: Able to translate complex biological and chemical concepts into precise, well-structured written explanations
- Meticulous and Detail-Oriented: High precision when reviewing chemical equations, molecular diagrams, reaction mechanisms, and experimental protocols
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, evaluation, or quality assurance workflows
- Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST
- Background in scientific writing, peer review, or research mentorship
