Job Description

A BIM (Building Information Modeling) Design Engineer creates and manages 3D digital models of buildings or infrastructure projects. These models aren't just visuals—they contain data about materials, dimensions, costs, and timelines.

BIM Lead – PEB Design Team

Location: India | Experience: 5–10 Years | Reporting To: Head of Design / Chief Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a BIM Lead to own the end-to-end BIM-to-Build pipeline for our Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) design team — from parametric Revit/Tekla modelling to fabrication-ready shop drawings, quantity take-offs, and site coordination. This is a leadership role demanding both technical depth and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Role in the Team

The BIM Lead sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and execution within the PEB design team. You will:

  • Act as the single point of accountability for all BIM deliverables across projects.
  • Work directly under the Head of Design / Chief Engineer and collaborate with structural engineers, estimation leads, procurement managers, and site execution teams.
  • Guide and mentor a team of BIM modellers and detailing engineers, setting quality benchmarks and enforcing BIM standards across the team.
  • Bridge the gap between design intent and construction reality — ensuring every model translates accurately to fabrication and erection on site.
  • Drive BIM adoption and process improvements across the design team, championing a model-first, data-driven workflow.
  • Represent BIM interests in project coordination meetings, design reviews, and client interactions where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain highly parametric BIM families and templates aligned with PEB structural systems — primary frames, secondary members, cladding, and connections.
  • Own model-based BOQ/BOM extraction (5D BIM) ensuring zero mismatch between design quantities, procurement, and site consumption.
  • Integrate BIM with construction schedules (4D) to validate erection sequences and reduce field errors.
  • Produce ultra-clear, fabrication-ready shop drawings executable with minimal interpretation by site and erection teams.
  • Lead and mentor BIM modellers and detailing engineers; enforce BEP, naming conventions, and version control discipline.
  • Coordinate actively with structural design, estimation, procurement, and erection teams.
  • Maintain change management discipline — track model revisions, issue logs, and drawing registers across all active projects.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • BIM certification (Autodesk Certified Professional, Tekla Certified User, or equivalent) is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Revit and/or Tekla Structures — parametric family creation, shared parameters, and model management.
  • Hands-on experience with Navisworks (Quantification & Timeliner) for clash detection and 4D simulation.
  • Strong working knowledge of 5D BIM workflows — model to BOQ to BOM to cost integration.
  • Solid understanding of PEB structural systems: primary and secondary framing, purlins, girts, bracing, cladding systems, and base plate connections.
  • Proficiency in fabrication drawing standards and shop drawing preparation for steel structures.
  • Good command of MS Excel for quantity validation, cost logic, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Dynamo for workflow automation is an added advantage.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of total experience in BIM/structural detailing, with at least 2 years in a BIM leadership or ownership role.
  • Proven track record delivering quantity-driven BIM models and execution-ready shop drawings on PEB or steel structure projects.
  • Prior exposure to modular, prefab, or industrial construction environments is preferred.

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Owner mindset — takes full accountability for BIM deliverables without requiring supervision.
  • Strong documentation discipline and attention to accuracy and repeatability.
  • Comfortable challenging design decisions that impact constructability or BIM data integrity.
  • Effective communicator — able to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • High adaptability in a fast-paced, delivery-oriented team environment.
