Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities:
. Seeking a Consumer Credit Risk Lead / Senior Consultant to oversee underwriting and account management policy implementation, including independent portfolio performance assessment and credit risk reporting to senior leadership and regulators.
. The role involves developing, monitoring, and periodically recalibrating the Credit Risk Management Framework, including risk appetite, limits, and quantitative risk metrics. Responsibilities also include ensuring strong governance and documentation for credit risk committees, audits, and regulatory reviews.
Primary Skills
1. Credit Policy & Underwriting Strategy:
Origination Risk: Establish and refine the credit policy for new account approvals, including FICO/VantageScore cut-offs, Debt-to-Income (DTI) thresholds, and income verification rules.
Risk Appetite Framework: Define and monitor the portfolio's risk appetite, ensuring that approval rates and initial line assignments align with the bank's targeted risk-adjusted return on capital (RAROC).
Alternative Data: Evaluate and integrate alternative credit data sources (e.g., cash flow underwriting, utility data) to safely expand credit access to thin-file or no-file US consumers.
2. Portfolio Risk Management (ECM Risk):
Exposure Management: Develop proactive Credit Limit Decrease (CLD) and account closure strategies to mitigate exposure to deteriorating credit profiles.
Behavioral Scoring: Oversee the development and calibration of internal behavioral risk scorecards to predict the Probability of Default (PD) for existing cardholders.
Overlimit & Authorizations: Design authorization strategies that minimize bust-out fraud and high-risk overlimit spend.
3. Loss Forecasting & Stress Testing:
CECL / Reserving: Partner with the Finance and Modeling teams to develop assumptions for the Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) framework to ensure adequate loan loss reserves (ALLL).
CCAR / DFAST: Lead the credit card portfolio's inputs for the Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) and Dodd-Frank Act Stress Testing (DFAST), modeling how the portfolio will perform under severe macroeconomic downturns.
Vintage & Roll Rate Analysis: Monitor delinquency roll rates (e.g., 30-to-60 day, 60-to-90 day) and Net Charge-Off (NCO) vintages to identify emerging risk trends.
4. Collections & Recovery Strategy:
Pre-Delinquency & Early Stage: Design data-driven, omni-channel contact strategies (SMS, email, phone) for customers exhibiting early signs of financial distress.
Treatment Optimization: Optimize settlement offers, forbearance programs, and payment plans to maximize recovery rates and minimize ultimate charge-offs.
5. Regulatory Compliance & Governance:
Regulatory Exams: Serve as a subject matter expert during internal audits and external regulatory exams conducted by the OCC, CFPB, or FDIC.
Fair Lending & ECOA: Rigorously monitor all risk policies and models for disparate impact to ensure full compliance with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Regulation B).
Model Risk Management: Ensure all risk models comply with SR 11-7 (Supervisory Guidance on Model Risk Management).
6. Business Acumen: Deep understanding of the credit card P&L, specifically how risk metrics (Probability of Default, Exposure at Default, Loss Given Default, Net Charge-Offs) impact the bottom line.
7. Analytical Problem Solving: Ability to leverage massive datasets (bureau attributes, transaction data, macroeconomic indicators) to identify hidden risks before they materialize into losses.
8. Policy Implementation and Monitoring: Oversee and report on underwriting and account management policies, including independent assessment of portfolio performance, compliance with credit policy, and comprehensive credit risk reporting to leadership and regulators. This involves reviewing proposed policy changes and monitoring portfolio risk.
9. Governance and Documentation: Ensure governance for credit risk committees by tracking agenda items, recording meeting minutes, and maintaining relevant documentation for audit and regulatory purposes.
10. Technical Skills:
Expert-level proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
Strong programming skills in Python, R, or SAS for statistical modeling and data analysis.
Experience building automated risk dashboards in Tableau or PowerBI.
11. Credit Card and banking industry experience 6 - 10+ years.
