Job Description
Title: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Manager – Solution Engineering
Location: Delhi
Qualification: BE/ME in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
Experience:
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in renewable energy systems, including Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in utility-scale BESS design and engineering.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Manager to strengthen our BESS Solution Engineering capabilities. The role will be responsible for supporting both pre-bid (proposal and solution development) and post-bid (detailed engineering and project delivery) activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects and hybrid renewable energy projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, optimization, engineering, and integration of BESS solutions for standalone and renewable energy applications, including Solar PV, Wind, and Hybrid Energy Systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Bid / Proposal Engineering:
- Develop optimal BESS solutions for utility-scale and hybrid renewable energy projects.
- Perform battery sizing, technology evaluation, and application-specific optimization.
- Support techno-commercial proposal preparation, technical due diligence, and bid submissions.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, datasheets, scope of work documents, and performance guarantees.
- Evaluate battery technologies, power conversion systems, and associated balance-of-system components.
- Conduct energy modelling, dispatch optimization, and performance assessments for various BESS applications.
Detailed Engineering & Project Delivery:
- Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layouts, and system architecture for BESS projects.
- Coordinate with electrical, civil, solar PV, and project execution teams to ensure seamless integration of the BESS package.
- Support detailed engineering, design validation, equipment selection, and vendor technical evaluations.
- Review engineering deliverables, testing procedures, commissioning plans, and performance validation documents.
- Provide technical support during project execution, commissioning, and handover stages.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, design, installation, testing, and commissioning standards.
Technical Requirements:
Battery & Energy Storage Expertise:
- Strong understanding of battery technologies, chemistry selection, performance characteristics, degradation mechanisms, lifetime modelling, and augmentation strategies.
- Experience in battery sizing and optimization for various applications such as:
- Renewable energy integration
- Peak shaving and load shifting
- Frequency regulation
- Grid support services
- Microgrids and hybrid energy systems
- Ability to evaluate and optimize battery parameters to achieve technically and commercially viable solutions.
Power Conversion & System Integration:
- Profound knowledge of bi-directional inverter operation, controls, and integration with battery systems.
- Good understanding of DC/DC converters and power conversion technologies.
- Experience in selection, sizing, and specification of power conversion equipment.
- Basic understanding of integration and operation of:
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- SCADA Systems
Design & Engineering:
- Preparation and review of:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Electrical layouts
- Equipment specifications
- Functional and performance requirements
- Understanding of utility-scale BESS architecture and integration with renewable generation assets.
Standards & Compliance:
Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and codes including:
- UL Standards
- IEEE Standards
- IEC Standards
- European Standards
- Indian Standards (IS)
Particularly related to:
- BESS design and safety
- Battery systems
- Power conversion systems
- Installation, testing, validation, and commissioning requirements

Power System Studies:

Battery & Energy Modelling:
- MATLAB or equivalent simulation platforms
- Battery sizing and optimization tools
- Performance modelling and degradation analysis tools
Commercial & Economic Analysis:
- Energy modelling for hybrid renewable energy projects
- LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) calculations
- LCOS (Levelized Cost of Storage) calculations
- Techno-economic evaluation of Solar + BESS and Wind + BESS systems
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in renewable energy systems, including Solar PV, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in utility-scale BESS design and engineering.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system integration skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
