Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Backup Administrator to design, administer, and operate enterprise backup environments using Dell EMC Networker as the primary backup platform and Dell EMC Data Domain as the deduplication and storage solution. This role is critical to ensuring data protection, SLA compliance, business continuity, and disaster recovery readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage Dell EMC Networker, including backup policies, schedules, retention, storage nodes, and client systems (servers, VMs, databases, applications)
- Manage Dell EMC Data Domain appliances, including DD Boost integration, MTree administration, replication, deduplication optimization, and capacity planning
- Monitor daily backup operations, analyze failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to meet backup and restore SLAs
- Execute and validate restore requests for files, virtual machines, and databases
- Participate in disaster recovery drills, testing, and documentation
- Plan and implement upgrades, patches, and configuration changes following change management processes
- Produce operational, capacity, and compliance reports; maintain runbooks, topology diagrams, and configuration documentation
- Collaborate with server, storage, network, security, and application teams to onboard new workloads and resolve complex incidents
- Implement and maintain security controls including role-based access, encryption, retention, and immutability
- Provide on-call and out-of-hours support during incidents and planned maintenance windows
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven hands-on experience administering Dell EMC Networker in medium to large enterprise environments
- Strong working experience with Dell EMC Data Domain (DDOS, DD Boost, replication, cleaning/GC, capacity & deduplication monitoring)
- In-depth understanding of backup and recovery concepts (RPO/RTO, full/incremental/differential strategies, application-aware backups)
- Experience supporting backups for:
- Windows & Linux servers
- VMware environments
- At least one major database platform (MS SQL Server / Oracle)
- Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, storage, and network layers
- Excellent documentation, communication, and change management discipline
Desirable Skills
- Scripting knowledge in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and reporting
- Exposure to cloud-based backup and DR solutions
- Working knowledge of SAN, NAS, and networking concepts related to backup performance
- Relevant certifications such as:
- Dell Technologies Proven Professional (Networker / Data Domain)
- VMware, Linux, or related enterprise infrastructure certifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Equivalent professional experience will also be considered
