Backup Admin (NetBackup & Rubrik)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain backup and recovery solutions using NetBackup and Rubrik.
• Monitor daily backup jobs, troubleshoot failures, and ensure successful backup and restore operations.
• Perform regular restores for testing, audits, and incident recoveries to ensure data availability.
• Manage and optimize backup storage infrastructure, including deduplication, replication, and cloud storage.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, database, and application teams for backup integration and policy tuning.
• Develop and maintain backup documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Ensure compliance with data retention policies, audit requirements, and disaster recovery objectives (RPO/RTO).
• Perform system upgrades, patching, and capacity planning of backup infrastructure.
• Participate in disaster recovery drills and business continuity planning.
• Provide 24x7 support for critical backup operations on a rotational basis.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in enterprise backup administration.
• Strong hands-on experience with Veritas NetBackup (v8.x and above).
• Proven expertise in Rubrik Cloud Data Management, including SLA policies, snapshots, live mounts, and archival.
• Experience with backup of VMware, Windows, Linux, databases (SQL, Oracle), and cloud workloads (Azure, AWS).
• Familiar with tape, disk, and cloud-based backup storage technologies.
• Understanding of networking, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and security principles as they relate to backups.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in root cause analysis of backup issues.
• Ability to script in PowerShell, Bash, or Python for automation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Veritas Certified Specialist (VCS) – NetBackup
• Rubrik Certified Professional (RCP)
• Experience with other backup platforms (e.g., Commvault, Veeam) is a plus
• Experience with ticketing and monitoring tools like ServiceNow, Splunk, or Nagios
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)
