Backend Lead

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend systems.
• Develop, review, and optimise code to ensure performance, quality, and security.
• Lead technical decisions involving system architecture, APIs, and backend development.
• Mentor backend engineers and establish coding standards and best practices.
• Monitor system performance and improve scalability, efficiency, and reliability.
• Implement security best practices, including authentication, authorisation, and data protection.
• Identify and manage technical debt while driving continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Communicate technical decisions, progress, and challenges effectively to relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of backend development experience, with a proven track record of building scalable systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, ExpressJS, and PostgreSQL.
• Solid understanding of system architecture, microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience in backend performance optimisation, scalability, and system reliability.
• Good knowledge of software security practices, including authentication, authorisation, and data protection.
• Strong technical leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and support other engineers.
• Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
