The Opportunity: Backend Engineer (Python + AWS) - Conversational Systems

We're building a chatbot product and looking for a Backend Engineer who can take full ownership of backend services, deployments, and infrastructure on AWS. You'll be responsible for building and running FastAPI-based backend systems, managing AWS deployments, setting up simple and reliable CI/CD, and integrating self-hosted open-source modules that form part of our product ecosystem. You'll work directly with the Tech Lead and Product Manager, owning the backend and deployment layer end-to-end from code to production. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in lean product teams and enjoys making systems work in production.

Key Responsibilities

• Own deployment, scaling, and reliability of backend systems on AWS.
• Build and maintain FastAPI-based backend services supporting product features.
• Implement and manage simple, effective CI/CD pipelines for fast and safe releases.
• Set up, integrate, and maintain self-hosted open-source components that extend the system (e.g., analytics, customer engagement, or monitoring modules).
• Ensure system security, uptime, and smooth integration between AWS services and internal modules. Collaborate closely with the tech lead and PM to deliver stable, production-ready features quickly.

Who Will Thrive in This Role - You'll love this role (and we'll love working with you) if you have:

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in software development.
• Proven track record of working on production-ready systems (live customer-facing products).
• Strong command over AWS especially RDS, EC2, and deployment workflows.
• Hands-on experience with FastAPI (or Flask, but with production deployments).
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines. (GitHub Actions, AWS codepipeline etc.)
• Comfort with debugging, optimizing, and securing production systems.
• Solid fundamentals in Python and system design for small-to-mid scale web services.
• (Bonus) Exposure to server monitoring or alerting tools.
• (Bonus) Experience in scaling systems to handle higher load.
• (Bonus) Familiarity with version controlled and structured release processes.
