Role Overview
We're looking for a skilled
Backend Engineer to help architect and develop the scalable backend systems that power our games. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about performance, reliability, and delivering seamless multiplayer experiences. Whether you're a mid-level developer looking to level up or a senior engineer ready to take ownership, we'd love to talk to you.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient backend systems for online/multiplayer games.
- Develop RESTful APIs, real-time services, and game-related server-side features.
- Collaborate closely with gameplay, client, design, and DevOps teams to support game features and live operations.
- Write clean, modular, and well-documented code with appropriate unit and integration tests.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical planning.
- Monitor, maintain, and optimize backend services in production environments.
- (For senior candidates) Mentor junior developers and help guide technical decisions.
Requirements
- 48 years of experience in backend development (title/level will align with experience).
- Proficiency in Python, Node.js, Go, or equivalent backend language.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Solid understanding of Docker, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Good knowledge of networking, APIs, WebSockets, and asynchronous systems.
- Experience with Git and modern development workflows.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
- Background in gaming or working on real-time multiplayer products.
- Familiarity with backend services for Unreal Engine or other game engines.
- Experience with matchmaking, game session management, leaderboards, or inventory systems.
- Understanding of analytics, telemetry, and live-ops tooling.
