About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our team working on a high-traffic consumer technology platform. You will build and maintain APIs, services, and data pipelines that power real-time user experiences at scale.
This is a polyglot role. Our backend spans Node.js (Express) and Python (FastAPI, Django), with both MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. You will move between languages and frameworks depending on what the problem demands. If you are the kind of engineer who gets uncomfortable being locked into one stack, you will fit right in.
You will use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as everyday tools. We expect you to be proficient with them, not just familiar. Knowing how to prompt, review AI-generated code critically, and ship faster because of it is a core part of how we work.
Key Responsibilities
- Write clean, testable backend code in TypeScript/JavaScript (Express) and Python (FastAPI/Django)
- Design and maintain database schemas and optimize queries for performance
- Build and extend APIs that handle real user traffic at scale Use AI coding assistants effectively to accelerate development without sacrificing code quality
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, DevOps, and project leads
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architecture decisions
- Own features end-to-end: from understanding requirements to deployment and monitoring
Requirements
What You'll Work On
- RESTful APIs serving high-traffic consumer applications
- Event pipelines, click tracking, and analytics infrastructure
- Database design, query optimization, and migrations across MySQL and PostgreSQL
- Integration with third-party services and internal microservices
- Background jobs, scheduling, and async processing
- Production debugging, monitoring, and performance tuning
