Backend Platform Engineer (Senior/Staff)

Reports to: Director of Platform Engineering

Timing: Immediate (3-4 positions)

Location: Hyderabad - WFO 5 days week

About the Role

As a Backend Platform Engineer, you will build the composable backbone of our AI platform, designing and implementing core services that support multiple regulated industries. You will work on API layers, microservices, database architecture, caching strategies, and event-driven systems that power our enterprise customers.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core platform services using microservices architecture
• Develop RESTful and GraphQL APIs that serve frontend and third-party integrations
• Implement database schemas, migrations, and query optimization (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Build caching layers (Redis, Memcached) for performance optimization
• Design and implement event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS)
• Implement multi-tenancy with data isolation and compliance controls
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following best practices
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards
• Implement observability including logging, metrics, and distributed tracing
• Collaborate with DevOps on deployment strategies and infrastructure
• Partner with AI/ML team on model serving and integration points
• Work with Security Engineer to implement secure-by-design patterns
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident response
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical documentation

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or similar backend languages
• Deep experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Solid understanding of database design and optimization (SQL and NoSQL)
• Experience building RESTful APIs and understanding of API design principles
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, and security best practices
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

• Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, financial services, government)
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message queues
• Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or other API technologies
• Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus)
• Understanding of compliance requirements (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR)
• Experience with AI/ML model serving or data pipelines
• Contributions to open source projects
• Experience at high-growth startups
