Organizational Overview: Credit Team decisions credit actions across the lifecycle of a customer from acquisition to account management to collections and recovery we work towards managing credit and fraud losses and elevating customer experience through powerful and proprietary insights on customer risk and credit behaviours. The actionable insights are driven by access to numerous alternative data sources, new age technologies, focused strategies, emerging algorithms, and predictive precision. Spread across 10 pillars the credit team in India caters to the entire gamut of decision sciences, from data management to model development to strategy design, and bringing it all to life through technology, and managing within the guardrails of our regulatory requirements. Role Summary/Purpose

This AVP (individual contributor) role sits within the Strategy Sciences team, which is responsible for detecting signals early, translating them into strategic insights, enabling informed business decisions, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Reporting to the VP, Strategy Sciences, the AVP will drive high-impact analytics and strategy science work across Acquisition and Account Management areas spanning Credit or Fraud. The role will identify opportunities through anomaly detection, data mining, and pattern recognition; perform data preparation and rigorous analyses; and translate findings into actionable recommendations that can be piloted, measured, and implemented in decisioning environments. The AVP will partner closely with functional strategy teams, model development, and technology/data teams to move work from exploration through execution in a fast-paced setting.

This position is designed for an AVP-level candidate who can independently own workstreams end-to-end, influence stakeholders without authority, and deliver measurable results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opportunity identification & diagnostics: Partner with Acquisition and Account Management (transactional) strategy teams to identify opportunity areas for customer growth/retention, improve existing credit and customer decisions, loss mitigation; proactively detect anomalies and diagnose drivers using existing reporting and performance monitoring.
  • Problem framing: Translate business questions into analytical problem statements, hypotheses, and success metrics; define test design and measurement approach in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Analytics execution: Perform data extraction, preparation, feature/variable creation, segmentation, deep-dives, trend analysis, and pattern recognition; apply ML/advanced analytics techniques when appropriate to generate actionable insights.
  • Recommendations & storytelling: Develop clear, executive-ready narratives, including impact sizing, trade-offs, and recommended actions to enable prioritization and decisioning.
  • Test-and-learn enablement: Support piloting by providing targeting logic, monitoring/measurement frameworks, and post-test readouts; iterate based on results.
  • Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate with model development teams on feature ideas and analytical findings; partner with Technology/Data teams to address data gaps, improve data quality, and enable implementation/monitoring capabilities.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in data analytics/strategy within Credit, Marketing, Risk or Collections in Financial services, or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 6+ years of data analytics/data sciences in Marketing, Risk or Collections in Financial services.
  • Strong understanding of the consumer lending lifecycle and card programs.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering analytics or data science solutions in a strategy, risk, or decisioning environment.
  • Strong analytical toolkit: SQL and SAS; working knowledge of Python (or similar) for analysis/ML; experience with experimentation/measurement and data visualization/storytelling.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver in ambiguity and time-sensitive environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to influence without authority.
  • Familiarity with decisioning frameworks, strategy/policy testing, and KPI design.

Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • Familiarity with modeling approaches (e.g., logistic regression, tree-based methods/ensembles, neural networks) and how to apply them to business problems.
  • Experience building scalable analytical assets (repeatable code, standardized metrics, dashboards) and monitoring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex analysis for senior audiences.
  • Demonstrated project organization skills (workflow, timelines, dependencies) across multiple concurrent efforts.
  • Familiarity with consumer and/or commercial lending products and practices.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in data analytics/strategy within Credit, Marketing, Risk or Collections in Financial services, or in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 6+ years of data analytics/data sciences in Marketing, Risk or Collections in Financial services.
  • 2+ years of experience using statistical/analytics tools such as SAS, SQL, Python and/or visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
  • 2+ years of experience supporting retail lending products (e.g., credit cards, installment loans, unsecured lending).
  • Demonstrated ability to work through uncertainty, collaborate respectfully across teams, and drive issues to resolution.

Work Timings

This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs)
