Job Title: AVP – Legal (Contracts & Compliance)

Location: Mumbai (Kurla)

Organization: Aditya Birla Digital Fashion & Retail Ltd. (ABFRL)

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned legal professional (15–20 years PQE) to lead Contracts, Compliance, and M&A legal functions across Aditya Birla Digital Fashion Ventures Ltd (ABDFVL), its subsidiaries, and international business operations.

This is a high-impact leadership role involving strategic advisory, stakeholder management, and end-to-end ownership of legal operations across a diverse portfolio of brands.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legal Leadership

  • Head legal function for ABDFVL and its subsidiaries, along with international business of ABFRL
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on complex legal matters
  • Drive legal governance, policies, and risk mitigation frameworks
  • Present quarterly legal updates and risks to the Board

2. Contracts Management

  • Lead end-to-end contract lifecycle (850+ contracts annually)
  • Oversee drafting, negotiation, review, and execution of high-value agreements
  • Standardize contract templates and improve contracting processes
  • Act as escalation point for critical contractual issues
  • Manage external counsel for specialized matters

3. Compliance Oversight

  • Lead compliance across 20 factories/offices/warehouses and 1100 retail stores PAN India
  • Monitor and mitigate non-compliances proactively
  • Drive implementation of compliance frameworks and regulatory changes
  • Collaborate with business teams to ensure 90–100% compliance adherence

4. Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)

  • Lead legal aspects of acquisitions, restructuring, and funding activities
  • Oversee legal due diligence, documentation, and negotiations
  • Advise on deal structuring and risk mitigation
  • Coordinate with external law firms and internal stakeholders

5. Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Act as a single point of contact for legal across multiple brands and functions
  • Collaborate with CXOs, founders, and cross-functional teams
  • Mentor and lead a team of 7 legal professionals
  • Ensure strong alignment between legal and business priorities

6. Training & Knowledge Management

  • Identify legal training needs and conduct learning sessions
  • Drive legal awareness across business functions
  • Develop knowledge resources and updates for stakeholders

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 15–20 years of post-qualification experience in corporate legal roles
  • Strong expertise in contracts, compliance, and M&A
  • Proven leadership experience managing high-performing teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-business environment
