Automation Engineer

About the role

We're looking for someone who lives for building automation that just works — browser bots, scrapers, schedulers, sync jobs, and integrations that run unattended, recover gracefully, and scale as we grow. A big part of our work is driving websites and portals automatically (logins, filings, document pulls, status checks) using tools like Playwright, Puppeteer, and Selenium, and wiring those flows into the product. You won't just write throwaway scripts; you'll build automation as a real part of the product — with guidance and room to grow.

What you'll do

• Build browser & web automation with Playwright / Puppeteer / Selenium — automating portal logins, form filling, document downloads, status checks, and scraping on third-party and government sites.
• Design, build, and own robust automation — scheduled jobs (cron/workers), event-driven workflows, data sync pipelines, and background processing.
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party platforms (AWS, OAuth providers, payment/government APIs, notification/webhook systems) and keep them resilient to token expiry, rate limits, and partial failures.
• Make automation survive the real world — flaky pages, captchas, changing DOMs, sessions, and OTP/2FA flows — with smart waits, retries, and self-healing selectors.
• Wire automation directly into the product — not as side-scripts, but as reliable, monitored, observable features.
• Make things fault-tolerant: retries, idempotency, dead-letter handling, race-condition fixes, and graceful degradation.
• Add observability — logging, alerting, and dashboards so failures are caught before customers notice.
• Collaborate with backend, frontend, and product teams to turn manual/repetitive work into automated flows.

What we're looking for

• 1–2 years building automation (internships and strong personal/production projects count).
• Hands-on with browser automation — Playwright, Puppeteer, and/or Selenium — you've automated real websites end to end, not just toy demos.
• Comfortable working with the DOM, selectors (CSS/XPath), and HTTP — you can inspect a page or a network call and figure out how to drive it.
• Hands-on experience consuming third-party APIs — REST, webhooks, and at least one OAuth flow.
• Understanding of asynchronous patterns: cron scheduling, background jobs, async/await, and why retries and idempotency matter.
• Basic comfort with AWS (SES, S3, etc.) and Docker — or eagerness to learn.
• A bias toward reliability — you ask what happens when this page changes, the site is slow, or the data is bad before you ship.
• Clean, readable code and a habit of writing things so the next person can debug them.

Good to have

• Working knowledge of Node.js / JavaScript (TypeScript a plus); comfortable with Express and MongoDB/Mongoose — or able to ramp on them quickly.
• Experience with AI/LLM-powered automation or agentic workflows.
• Familiarity with Next.js (our admin/ERP) or Flutter (our mobile app).
• Background in fintech, accounting, or compliance products.
• Exposure to message brokers, websockets, or real-time systems.
