Job Title: Research Mentor (Astrophysics & Cosmology)
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Part-Time
Company: Let's Unbound
Role Overview
We are looking for researchers in astrophysics and cosmology to mentor high school students through open-ended, research-style exploration of the universe using physical reasoning, mathematical modeling, and computational thinking.
This is not a tutoring or astronomy outreach role.
Mentors work closely with students to help them move from curiosity about physical phenomena to meaningful scientific questions, simplified models, and structured research-style investigations.
The role is ideal for individuals who enjoy connecting physical intuition, mathematics, and observational or computational ideas to explore complex systems and large-scale phenomena.
What You'll Do
- Guide students from curiosity → question → framework → structured investigation
- Help students identify feasible and intellectually meaningful astrophysics or cosmology questions
- Support conceptual understanding through first-principles reasoning and simplified physical models
- Mentor projects in areas such as:
- Stellar Physics
- Exoplanets
- Black Holes
- Galaxy Formation
- Dark Matter & Dark Energy
- Cosmology
- Gravitational Physics
- Computational Astrophysics
- Space Physics
- Help students explore scientific literature and observational data where appropriate
- Support simplified simulations, analytical models, or computational explorations
- Provide feedback on reasoning, interpretation, and scientific writing
- Encourage curiosity-driven and independent exploration
Required Qualifications
- Current or completed PhD in Astrophysics, Astronomy, Cosmology, Physics, or a closely related quantitative field
- Strong conceptual and analytical reasoning ability
- Research experience and/or publication record preferred
- Ability to communicate complex scientific ideas clearly and intuitively
Researchers from institutes such as IUCAA, IISc, TIFR, IISERs, RRI, PRL, and leading international universities are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Experience
- Prior mentoring or teaching experience
- Experience with computational tools, simulations, or data analysis
- Familiarity with research workflows involving modeling or observational interpretation
- Strong scientific writing and explanatory ability
