Job Purpose: This role is responsible for overseeing the planning, maintenance, and operations of turbine systems across various sites, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and safety. This role acts as the primary point of contact for all turbine-related issues, facilitating communication between sites, technical committees, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Head - SME Turbines and Auxiliary and Plant SPOC

Strategic Planning And Budgeting

Oversee annual and capital overhauls based on running hours, considering lead times and obtaining budget approvals.

Justify budget carry-forwards, plan inventory, and allocate budgets accordingly.

Finalize Operating Expenses (OPEX) and Capital Expenses (CAPEX) budgets specifically for turbine maintenance and operations.

Lead Turbine Generator (TG) conclave programs for knowledge sharing on issue resolutions.

Collaborate with site teams and techno-commercial teams for job planning and procurement processes for annual rate contracts.

Troubleshooting And Expertise

Provide expert guidance on turbine design, operation, and maintenance to site personnel, addressing new and complex turbine-related issues.

Troubleshoot and advise management on potential machine stoppage before the next overhaul, considering equipment age and condition.

Assist in making decisions regarding whether operations can continue beyond alarm limits based on specific turbine configurations and conditions.

Maintenance And Operations

Guide site teams on critical turbine parameters, such as lube oil system pressure for different bearings.

Review and ensure availability of critical spares and checklists prepared by site teams for vital and essential items.

Plan and direct overhauls (Annual Overhaul or Capital Overhaul) based on usage and OEM guidelines, utilizing modern technology to optimize cycle time.

Oversee the implementation of scheduled maintenance and be present on-site during major overhauls.

Formulate audit teams, review observations, and facilitate the implementation of audit recommendations across sites.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

Oversee conduction root cause analysis in case of turbine failures.

Ensure corrective actions of RCA are replicated across all stations.

Management Of Change (MOC)

Review and dispose of Management of Change (MOC) documents.

Provide suggestions and inputs for MOC to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.

Spare Parts Management

Ensure availability of spares through reverse engineering and indigenization, reducing dependency on expensive imported parts.

Identify potential manufacturers for repairing spares and coordinate with the insurance department for claims.

Collaborate with vendors to prepare repair scopes, review technical evaluations, and ensure quality repairs.

Site Single Point Of Contact (SPOC)

Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for an assigned site, facilitating communication between the site and Head Office (HO).

Monitor daily performance metrics and identify deviations, communicating issues and necessary actions to the site management.

Support the execution of excellence projects proposed by the site, evaluate capital project proposals, and approve based on alignment with organizational goals.

Lead monthly Operational Review Meetings (ORM) to review plant operations, identify deviations, and discuss achievements.

Coordinate with Head Office to support for resolving site-specific issues.

Conduct training sessions and share knowledge with site personnel, promoting continuous learning and development.

Organize annual conclave sessions with all sites to discuss failures, resolutions, and improvement strategies.

Merger And Acquisition (M&A) Activities

Evaluate existing plant operations during M&A due diligence processes, identifying deviations from standard operating procedures.

Conduct site inspections and assessments to determine required improvements to align with organizational standards.

Provide management with recommendations on necessary investments and operational improvements.

Lead technical audits related to M&A activities, ensuring compliance with audit subjects and previous audit findings.

Oversee creation of M&A Due Diligence report.

Digitisation And Automation

Lead and execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimise operational efficiency.

Innovate automation solutions to support overall organisational goals / strategy.

Implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas.

People And Team Engagement

Participate in the recruitment process to attract and retain skilled personnel for the team.

Enhance employee engagement across the team to sustain a positive workplace culture.

Lead, inspire and mentor the team to foster a high-performance culture and ensure cross skilling through job rotation, technical and behavioural trainings.

Ensure proper succession planning in the team.

Foster a conducive environment for high employee retention by ensuring team satisfaction and professional development.

Qualifications

Educational Qualification:

B.E/B.Tech Mechanical, Master of Business Administration (preferred)

Work Experience (Range Of Years)

Minimum 23 years in turbine operations, maintenance and management with strong knowledge of materials and metallurgy..

Preferred Industry

Background in the thermal power plant operations and maintenance.
