Job Description

Every day, roughly 500 Indians die on the country's roads. Road crashes are the leading cause of death for people aged 5–29, take overwhelmingly working-age men, and impact two in three low-income households that experience them. This is one of India's most neglected public health crises – and it is preventable. For eighteen years, SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF) has built the systems to change that. We are now entering the most ambitious phase of our work, and we are looking for an Associate/Senior Associate, Media and Communications to shape how India, and the world, understand what it takes to end preventable road crash deaths.

About SaveLIFE Foundation

SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF) is an award-winning, independent non-profit organization committed to saving lives on roads across India and the Global South. By combining grassroots action with systems reform, SLF has been at the forefront of introducing landmark road safety innovations—such as India's Good Samaritan Law and the Zero-Fatality Corridor (ZFC) model. Our work has helped reduce road crash deaths by up to 67% on some of India's most dangerous highways and has been recognized by institutions such as the Skoll Foundation, World Bank, and Government of India.

At SLF, we believe that road crashes are not accidents—they are preventable tragedies. We are on a mission to prove that loss of life on roads is not a price we must pay for mobility.

Join us to help scale this mission.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly-motivated Associate/Senior Associate, Media and Communications who can develop aesthetically engaging and informative content, and implement compelling communication strategies for different platforms. The role is ideal for candidates with a keen interest in writing and design who're looking for an opportunity to contribute/lead the social media advocacy of perhaps the most consequential social impact programmes in India, that could potentially address one of the most pressing public health crises facing India today.

The position reports to the Head of Communications at SLF and works in close coordination with Manager, Media & Communications, at SLF.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate/Senior Associate, Media and Communications will work with SaveLIFE Foundation's Media & Communication team. The person holding this position will ensure SLF's core advocacy on road safety is represented effectively and with utmost credibility on social media and other external communications platforms. Their work will help firmly position SLF as a credible thought leader on road safety, mobility, and trauma care. The position will support all of SLF's core communications work. This entails:

  • Social media management – manage and develop strategic, cutting-edge social media content and campaigns for platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Lead the creation of a sophisticated platform-agnostic design language for SLF's social media content, including carousel posts, infographics, and employer branding, and ensure adherence to the same across all external and internal communications.
  • Track and analyse SaveLIFE Foundation's social media metrics, and prepare reports on the organisation's social media performance to inform future strategies.
  • Enhance the reach of SLF's social media accounts both organically and through performance marketing. Develop high-quality communications content for both external and internal use, including newsletters, informative social media carousel posts, fact sheets, lightly edited short videos, and other relevant material. Edit and proofread all marketing collaterals such as brochures, leaflets, outdoor communication, newsletters, reports, etc.
  • Ensure SLF's website is updated with new content and information and maintains the highest standards of brand salience and ethical integrity.
  • Regularly update SLF's internal repository of photographs and videos with the latest content.
  • Select appropriate, high-quality, and legally sourced photos for communications requirements.
  • Work with vendors to develop high-quality content and communications IPs such as documentaries, reports, case studies, public awareness films, etc. Provide inputs for communication and implementation plans.
  • Actively participate in all media & communications activities, planning, and review discussions. Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

*Additional responsibilities could be assigned to the position holder from time to time. The same would be discussed between the incumbent and reporting manager.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Strong writing, research, editing, designing and communication abilities, along with outstanding English and Hindi speaking and writing skills.
  • Postgraduate degree in English/Mass Communication/Journalism/Development Communication.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in communications, digital media or advocacy, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in content creation, graphic designing, and writing for social media. (Candidates without a ready portfolio of previous work will not be considered).
  • Knowledge of design software such as Canva, Adobe Suite, and Figma will be preferable (a portfolio is essential for demonstrating proficiency in graphic design software). The ideal candidate should also be proficient in using AI tools to optimise workflows.
  • A proven track record of solving problems and negotiating with vendors/agencies.
  • In-depth understanding of social media marketing and management tools such as Hootsuite, digital marketing platforms such as Google Ads and Meta Business Suite, or an inclination to learn the working flows for such tools.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • A passion for creativity and a desire to stay up to date with industry trends. The right candidate should be keen to continuously learn new ways of doing things, thus helping SLF's communications practice be on par with the best practices in the social impact space.

What You'll Gain

  • A unique platform to lead change at scale, with the ability to directly influence infrastructure and policy in India and beyond.
  • The chance to work with India's only organisation that combines system reform with on-ground action for road safety.
