SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF) is an award-winning, independent nonprofit organization committed to saving lives on roads across India and the Global South. By combining grassroots action with systems reform, SLF has been at the forefront of introducing landmark road safety innovationssuch as India's Good Samaritan Law and the Zero-Fatality Corridor (ZFC) model. Our work has helped reduce road crash deaths by up to 67% on some of India's most dangerous highways and has been recognized by institutions such as the Skoll Foundation, World Bank, and Government of India. At SLF, we believe that road crashes are not accidentsthey are preventable tragedies. We are on a mission to prove that loss of life on roads is not a price we must pay for mobility.

About the role

The Community Engagement Associate is a critical position, acting as the bridge between SaveLIFE Foundation's strategic road safety initiatives and the local communities we serve. The core purpose of this role is to mobilize local stakeholders to co-create road-safety solutions and build community ownership for lasting impact. SaveLIFE Foundation is looking for passionate, empathetic, and hands-on professionals who can build trust and foster collaboration within diverse communities. The ideal candidate will be adept at navigating local social landscapes, facilitating dialogue, and empowering community members to become champions of road safety. This role is fundamental to ensuring our interventions are contextually relevant, sustainable, and truly embedded within the fabric of the community.

Role and Responsibilities

1. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Building:

Identify, map, and build strong relationships with key local stakeholders, including community leaders, local government officials (police, municipal bodies, PWD), schools, transport unions, local businesses, and civil society organizations.

Act as the primary point of contact for SaveLIFE Foundation within the designated project area, organizing and leading regular meetings, workshops, and consultations with the local communities.

Foster a collaborative environment where stakeholders feel heard, valued, and motivated to contribute to joint road safety goals.

2. Community Mobilization & Program Implementation:

Lead the on-ground implementation of SaveLIFE Foundation's community-based road safety programs and awareness campaigns.

Facilitate co-creation workshops and participatory rural appraisals (PRAs) to involve community members in identifying local road safety issues and designing effective, context-specific solutions.

Establish, train, and support local Road Safety Committees or volunteer groups to take ownership of safety initiatives and drive behavioral change.

Ensure all program activities are executed in a timely, efficient, and culturally sensitive manner.

3. Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting:

Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of community engagement activities against predefined project goals and indicators.

Collect qualitative and quantitative data from the field, including feedback from community members and stakeholders.

Prepare and submit timely progress reports, case studies, and success stories.

Document challenges and lessons learned to contribute to continuous improvement of SaveLIFE Foundation's program models.

Professional Experience

Academic Qualifications

Essential

A Bachelor's degree in Social Work (MSW), Sociology, Public Health, Development Studies, or a related field from a recognized university like Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Institute of Rural Management Anand IRMA), or other equivalent universities.

Preferred

Master's Degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage Professional Experience

Minimum of 5 years of relevant, post-qualification experience in community engagement, social mobilization, grassroots advocacy, or program implementation preferably within the development sector or other sectors

Demonstrated experience working effectively with government agencies, community-based organizations (CBOs), and diverse community groups is essential.

Communication & Language: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in English and the relevant local language(s) of the project region is mandatory.

Planning & Organization: Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan and execute multiple activities simultaneously.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with basic data collection tools.
