Job Description

Associate Robotics Coach – Programming Full-Time | Mon–Sat, 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM | OMOTEC Juhu, Mumbai

What we do

OMOTEC runs competitive robotics programs for students aged 10–18 — FTC, FRC, VEX, WRO. Not hobby robotics. We're talking teams that go to World Championships. Our coaches don't hand out worksheets; they're in the pits debugging autonomous code at 11 PM because the match is tomorrow and the robot will be ready.

What this role actually is

You'll be the programming brain behind multiple FTC competition teams. That means writing autonomous routines, building vision pipelines, teaching students how to think like engineers — and being someone they trustwhen their robot isn't doing what it's supposed to yet at 7 AM on competition day.

Some days you're in a classroom teaching OOP to a 14-year-old. Other days you're reverse-engineering why the IMU is drifting. Some days both.

You'll also go to competitions. Regionals, nationals, potentially Worlds. That part is non-negotiable and, honestly, the best part.

You should apply if:

  • You can code in Java (FTC's main language) and you actually enjoy it — not just survive it
  • You've built something autonomous before — a competition bot, a personal project, anything that moves and makes decisions
  • You like explaining things. Not performing explanations. Actually breaking down why something works until the student gets it.
  • You've done FTC, FRC, VEX, or any competitive robotics — or you've wanted to and never got the chance
  • You're okay with a room full of teenagers asking you the same question six different ways

Bonus if you have experience with OpenCV, ROS2, or any ML-based object detection. We're actively building that into our FTC pipeline.

You should probably not apply if:

  • You want a 9-to-5 with no surprises
  • You're not interested in competitive pressure (competition season gets intense)
  • You think good enough is good enough

Stack you'll work with: Java (FTC SDK), Python, OpenCV, TensorFlow Lite, REV hardware, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP32, IMU/encoder/sensor integration

Qualifications: Computer Engineering, CS, IT, Electronics, Mechatronics, AI/ML, or related — or equivalent experience that shows you can do the job.
