Position: Design Faculty – Materials
Location: Mumbai, Delhi
About the Role
We are looking for a Design Faculty specializing in Materials. This role is ideal for professionals passionate about teaching, experimentation, and enabling students to make informed, innovative, and sustainable material choices.
The faculty member will play a critical role in shaping future designers by integrating hands-on learning, material exploration, and industry insights into the curriculum.
Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Background: Design / Manufacturing / Material Science or related discipline
- Industry Experience: Design (Manufacturing / Product / Material Applications)
- Experience Required: 8–10 years
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical & Domain Expertise
- Teach material fundamentals including metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and smart materials
- Guide students on material testing, durability, and performance evaluation
- Introduce manufacturing processes such as CNC, molding, casting, 3D printing, and laser cutting
- Promote awareness of sustainable, recycled, and bio-based materials
- Enable interpretation of material datasheets, specifications, and standards
2. Design & Application Skills
- Drive material-led design thinking and innovation
- Connect materials with form, function, ergonomics, and user experience
- Facilitate prototyping, model-making, and workshop-based learning
- Guide applications across product, furniture, fashion, and lifestyle design
- Teach surface finishes, textures, coatings, and treatments
3. Digital & Tools Proficiency
- Train students in CAD and 3D tools (Rhino, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Blender)
- Utilize material libraries such as Material ConneXion and Materia
- Introduce simulation and visualization tools for material behavior
- Support rendering and visualization techniques
4. Pedagogical & Academic Responsibilities
- Design hands-on labs, workshops, and experiential modules
- Develop assessments, rubrics, and evaluation frameworks
- Mentor research-driven and experimental student projects
- Contribute to curriculum design and course structuring
5. Industry & Research Integration
- Bring insights on sourcing, costing, scalability, and supply chains
- Collaborate with industry partners, vendors, labs, and craftspeople
- Encourage research, innovation, and material experimentation
- Build awareness around IP, patents, and material innovation ecosystems
