The Associate Professor will contribute to teaching, research, consultancy, and academic leadership in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications in Structural Engineering and Civil Infrastructure. The candidate will be responsible for developing innovative research, delivering high-quality instruction, supervising students, and promoting the integration of GIS technologies with structural analysis, infrastructure management, disaster resilience, and smart city development.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Academic Duties
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate Courses in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and GIS applications.
- Develop and update curriculum related to GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, infrastructure monitoring, and structural asset management.
- Design laboratory exercises and practical training using GIS software and spatial data analysis tools.
- Supervise student projects, dissertations, theses, and doctoral research.
Research and Scholarly Activities
- Conduct high-quality research in GIS-enabled structural engineering, infrastructure assessment, digital twins, smart infrastructure systems, and geospatial technologies.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Secure external research funding from government agencies, industry partners, and research organizations.
- Establish interdisciplinary collaborations involving geospatial science, structural engineering, transportation, and urban planning.
GIS and Structural Engineering Applications
- Apply GIS techniques for infrastructure inventory, bridge management, structural health monitoring, and disaster risk assessment.
- Utilize spatial databases and geospatial modeling for infrastructure planning and maintenance.
- Integrate GIS with Building Information Modeling (BIM), remote sensing, UAV data, and structural analysis platforms.
- Develop decision-support systems for infrastructure resilience and asset management.
Academic Administration and Service
- Participate in departmental committees and accreditation activities.
- Assist in program development and quality assurance initiatives.
- Organize workshops, seminars, training programs, and industry outreach activities.
- Contribute to institutional strategic planning and academic governance.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering
- Proven expertise in GIS applications within structural engineering and infrastructure systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and spatial database management systems.
- Knowledge of BIM-GIS integration, remote sensing, UAV mapping, and structural health monitoring technologies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent professional certification.
- Industry consulting experience in infrastructure planning, asset management, or smart city projects.
