Position Summary
The Associate/Professor and Director of Biological and Behavioral Education provides leadership, administration, and oversight of the biological and behavioral science components of the predoctoral dental curriculum. This position ensures the curriculum supports the development of foundational biomedical knowledge, behavioral competencies, and evidence-based decision-making necessary for patient-centered dental care.
The Director works collaboratively with course directors, department chairs, and academic leadership to support curriculum planning, implementation, faculty coordination, assessment, and continuous quality improvement in alignment with institutional goals and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Biological and Behavioral Education program within the dental curriculum
- Lead curriculum planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives across the program
- Ensure integration of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences throughout the predoctoral dental curriculum
- Coordinate scheduling, educational resources, and program operations related to biological and behavioral science instruction
- Monitor course outcomes, student performance data, and curriculum effectiveness to support continuous improvement
- Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to align learning objectives, teaching methods, and assessment strategies
- Support faculty recruitment, mentoring, development, and collaboration within the department
- Deliver didactic, seminar, case-based, or integrated instruction in biological and behavioral sciences as assigned
- Mentor and advise students in academic progress, professional development, and evidence-based decision-making
- Participate in accreditation preparation, institutional committees, scholarly activity, and service to the university and profession
- DDS, DMD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant biomedical or behavioral science discipline
- Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor, or eligibility for appointment at that level
- Demonstrated experience teaching within a health professions or dental education program
- Experience in curriculum development, academic leadership, program administration, and assessment
- Strong commitment to evidence-based education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student success
- Experience in dental education and CODA-accredited academic programs
- Experience with curriculum integration, accreditation processes, and educational innovation
- Record of scholarship, academic leadership, and faculty mentorship
