Role: Associate Product Manager - Ground Segment Software

Work Experience: 23 years of experience in a technical role, with some exposure to product management, preferably within the space, satellite, or Earth observation industry.
Role Description:
We are looking for an Associate Product Manager to join our Ground Software team to support the execution of mission-critical software projects for satellite operations. The ideal candidate will facilitate collaboration between engineering, operations, and mission teams to help maintain development schedules, clarify requirements, and ensure smooth project tracking through all phases of development.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support execution of Ground Software initiatives, helping to ensure timely delivery of application updates and services by tracking progress and unblocking the engineering team.
- Assist GSS engineers in maintaining a healthy backlog by organizing tasks related to satellite tasking, data processing and operational tooling ensuring tickets are ready for development.
- Facilitate agile rituals (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives) to keep the team aligned on immediate deliverables.
- Develop a working understanding of technical concepts (API design, cloud infrastructure, data handling) to follow engineering discussions and capture accurate requirements.
- Monitor and flag risks regarding software integration or timeline delays to the PM or Tech Lead early.
- Serve as a point of contact between engineering, operations, and mission teams ensuring questions are answered and requirements are clarified during development.
- Coordinate communication with Satellite Operations and Mission Planning teams to ensure everyone is aware of upcoming releases and changes.
- Break down high-level requirements provided by leadership into detailed user stories and sub-tasks for the engineering team.
- Document interface specifications and release notes to ensure clarity across frontend, backend, and infrastructure teams.
- Coordinate testing and validation processes, ensuring that firmware updates and software changes pass necessary checks before deployment.
Essential Skills and Certifications:
- Ability to write SQL queries to validate data or troubleshoot issues without relying solely on engineers.
- Ability to read and understand code logic/snippets to follow technical discussions (writing production code is not required)
- Understanding of how APIs work, JSON data structures, and how backend services communicate.
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with Jira/Confluence
- Good technical writing and documentation skills
