WSP is seeking an Associate Director - OLE to lead and coordinate the OLE team within our Rail & Transit business. In this role, you will manage delivery, guide technical development, and work closely with project teams in Sweden to support design decisions, resolve technical issues, and ensure high-quality, compliant OLE solutions across railway and transit projects. This position requires strong leadership, technical credibility, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams across Sweden, India, and other global delivery locations.

Responsibilities

Technical and Design Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee delivery of OLE design packages for Swedish Rail projects across feasibility, concept, detailed, and IFC stages
  • Guide the preparation and technical review of the following design deliverables:
  • OLE layout plans, cross‑sections, and sectioning diagrams
  • Wire run schedules, dropper schedules, and conductor allocation
  • Foundation and mast schedules
  • Clearance and electrical safety studies
  • Loading calculations and design reports
  • Ensure OLE designs comply with Swedish Rail (Trafikverket) requirements and relevant EN / IEC standards, and provide direction on technical compliance matters
  • Apply system engineering principles and coordinate OLE designs with track, signalling, telecom, civil, and structural disciplines
  • Manage, coordinate, and technically guide the OLE team, allocating work, reviewing outputs, and supporting capability development across the team
  • Review/Check Technical deliverables and work on design strategies using applicable software platforms, write and review technical design reports

Coordination and Delivery

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across Sweden, India, Nordics, UK, and other regions to ensure effective OLE delivery and interface management
  • Lead technical discussions with project teams in Sweden to align design intent, resolve technical issues, and support project decision-making
  • Lead technical reviews, IDC / IDR processes, client submissions, and resolution of design comments
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and performance guidance to engineers and designers within the OLE team
  • Drive continuous improvement of OLE design standards, delivery workflows, quality processes, and team capability
  • Promote professional registrations and qualifications within and beyond the team

Quality, Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with WSP Quality, HSE, and Project Management systems
  • Deliver designs aligned with safe‑by‑design principles
  • Support audits, lessons learned, and best‑practice sharing across projects

Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Masters degree or professional certification is an advantage

Experience


  • 15+ years of experience in Railway OLE / Electrification design, including leadership of teams and project delivery
  • Strong experience delivering mainline rail electrification projects and managing technical teams
  • Prior experience supporting European / Nordic rail projects, with Sweden project interface experience will be preferred
  • Preferably a chartered Engineer
  • Strong knowledge of Overhead Line Equipment systems, including:
  • Catenary and contact wire systems
  • Auto‑tensioning systems
  • Mast, portal, and foundation arrangements
  • Familiarity with European and Swedish standards (EN / IEC / Trafikverket guidelines)
  • Ability to perform and review electrical and structural loading calculations
  • Understanding of interfaces with signalling (EMC), track geometry, and civil structures
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and understand the relationships between key design documents and reporting requirements, including installation plans, cable lists, wiring diagrams, object lists, grounding schemes, single-line diagrams, 2D and 3D model files, technical building or station drawings, and main wiring diagrams.
  • Bentley MicroStation (essential)
  • Experience with OLE design tools such as:
  • OLEMI / UKMS / Mark‑3B (or equivalent international tools)
  • Bentley OpenRail and ProjectWise (preferred)
  • AutoCAD and related CAD/BIM tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with collaborative digital workspaces such as OneNote
