Job Description

Position Overview

The Senior Associate – Global Custody Tax leads the day‑to‑day operations of the Global Custody Tax team for BNP Paribas India Solutions. You will act as the primary subject‑matter expert, mentor junior staff, allocate workload, perform checker reviews, and ensure that all tax‑related activities (document collection, DTA analysis, withholding‑tax application, tax‑reclaim processing and client reporting) are delivered accurately, on time and in line with service‑level agreements and KPIs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the go‑to reference for tax‑team members; train, guide and mentor junior staff.
  • Allocate daily work, set priorities and oversee complex or high‑value items.
  • Perform checker reviews on all manual tax‑related activities before final release.
  • Process Business‑As‑Usual (BAU) transactions strictly according to SOPs.
  • Collect, verify and analyse client tax documentation (residency certificates, DTA proofs, etc.).
  • Update the tax database to reflect the correct fiscal treatment based on DTAs, client residency and sub‑custodian procedures.
  • Manage relief‑at‑source documentation and ensure correct withholding‑tax application.
  • Prepare, submit and monitor tax‑reclaim forms via the tax‑reclaim system.
  • Track reclaim status, follow up with tax authorities/sub‑custodians and collect refunds.
  • Remit reclaimed amounts to the appropriate client accounts.
  • Provide clients with market updates, tax‑matrix insights and any certifications/disclosures requested by tax authorities or sub‑custodians.
  • Escalate incidents or operational risks promptly to the Team Leader.
  • Perform daily controls using check‑lists; verify that priorities are met and tasks are executed accurately.
  • Investigate and justify cash‑break issues in partnership with Control Teams.
  • Continuously improve documented procedures; ensure they are complete, current and accurate.
  • Prepare and circulate monthly KPI reports as required.
  • Participate in Business Continuity Planning (BCP) activities and support contingency procedures.
  • Work any shift required to support Asian, American or European business hours.
  • Contribute ideas in brainstorming sessions; share best practices with peers and support change initiatives.

Required Education, Skills and Experience (Must‑have)

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Professional tax qualification – e.g., CA (Inter) with completed article ship, or an equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in international taxation, tax reclaim, or custodial tax operations (including a completed taxation articling).
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws, withholding taxes and Double Tax Treaty Agreements (DTAs).
  • Understanding of custody operations, relief‑at‑source and tax‑reclaim processes.
  • Proven ability to analyses complex tax documentation with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Results‑driven mindset; consistently meets or exceeds defined KPIs.
  • Rigor, precision and strong organizational skills; capable of handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel (formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting, etc.).

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience (Nice‑to‑have)

  • Additional certifications such as CFA, ACCA, CPA or specialized tax‑technology credentials.
  • Hands‑on experience with tax‑reclaim platforms (e.g., Tax Reclaim, Bloomberg Tax, or other in‑house solutions).
  • Familiarity with tax‑database management tools and basic SQL query skills.
  • Experience contributing to SOP design or continuous‑improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Knowledge of global regulatory frameworks affecting custody (e.g., FATCA, CRS, EMIR).
  • Fluency in an additional European or Asian language (e.g., French, German, Mandarin).
  • Prior experience working rotational shifts covering multiple time zones.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver concise client‑facing presentations or market updates.
