Job Purpose: The role is responsible for leading and overseeing civil projects from planning through execution, ensuring timely and quality completion within budget. This role involves managing maintenance activities, coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring safety and compliance, and driving innovation for cost-effective project delivery and enhanced efficiency.
Responsibilities
Projects Construction Head - Coal Mining
The Roles & Responsibilities Shall Include
Construction Planning & Execution
- Lead endtoend construction activities for underground mines—including civil, mechanical, and electrical works.
- Prepare construction execution plans, schedules, resource plans and progress monitoring systems.
- Ensure timely execution of surface and underground infrastructure such as substations, workshops, ventilation systems, pumping systems, Coal handling plant, Electrical infrastructure including 33 kV line & substation, conveyor installations and water management systems.
- Collaborate with ERC team to create and finalize project drawings, ensuring they meet project requirements and obtain necessary approvals from management.
- Collaborate with the commercial team to float tenders, evaluate technical and price quotations, and assist in contractor negotiations for civil projects.
- Develop Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and prepare detailed project proposals, including budget estimates, for management approval (NFAs).
- Oversee installation and commissioning of heavy mining machinery viz. longwall, hoisting systems, crushers, conveyors, pumping stations and underground power distribution networks.
- Ensure reliable deployment of HV/LV systems, PLC/SCADA systems, ventilation fans, compressors and dewatering equipment's.
- Coordinate with OEMs for equipment installation, FAT/SAT and commissioning compliance.
- Manage all project construction activities for surface and underground facilities including foundations, access roads, buildings, and drainage systems.
- Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, technical specifications, and geotechnical recommendation.
Project Construction Monitoring
- Plan, monitor, coordinate, execute, inspect, and commission civil, mechanical & electrical projects to ensure they align with the planned timeline, budget, and quality standards.
- Supervise/monitor field work, including contract work, to ensure adherence to company standards, procedures, specifications, codes, statutory compliances and payment certifications.
- Ensure the timely completion of milestones while maintaining appropriate quality, time, budgeted costs and KPIs.
- Lead the discussions with internal and external stakeholders (designers, consultants, internal teams, local authorities, EPC partners and contractor teams) to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Conduct daily project review meetings with the site project team and contractors to track progress and take corrective actions to complete the project as per the budgeted cost and timeline.
- Ensure the highest level of quality systems are enforced and maintained on-site through adherence to Adani quality plans, QC audits, and ISO compliances.
- Enforce strict compliance with Mine Safety Rules, DGMS guidelines, MSEDCL guidelines, and company HSE policies.
- Conduct risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID reviews, and implement mitigation plans.
Budget & Cost Control
- Establish comprehensive budgets for construction projects across cluster, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and financial plans. Continuously track expenses and adjust forecasts to maintain budget adherence.
- Identify and implement cost-saving measures throughout the project lifecycle, including negotiating with vendors, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring efficient utilization of materials and equipment.
- Regularly review financial performance against the budget, prepare cost reports and provide actionable insights for senior management. Address any variances and develop strategies for cost control.
- Conduct financial risk assessments related to construction activities, identifying potential cost overruns or budgetary risks. Implement corrective actions to mitigate financial exposure and ensure projects remain within budget.
Billing And Contractor Management
- Review and certify invoices and claims submitted by contractors and consultants, ensuring they are accurate and justified.
- Ensure the timely processing of invoices to maintain smooth cash flow and contractor relations.
- Ensure contractors adhere to safety norms, maintaining a safe working environment.
- Achieve cost savings through innovative approaches and modifications, constantly reviewing and identifying alternate construction methodologies for quicker project delivery.
Digitalization And Tech Initiatives
- Formulate a comprehensive plan to integrate advanced technologies like BIM and GIS into construction projects.
- Oversee the effective adoption and integration of digital tools to enhance project efficiency.
- Evaluate the impact of digital technologies on project outcomes and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of underground mine development and multi-disciplinary construction.
- Expertise in mechanical & electrical systems, especially mine equipment, power distribution and utilities.
- Excellent planning skills.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and crisis management abilities.
- Knowledge of DGMS regulations and state electricity board statutory compliance.
- Experience managing EPC contractors in heavy industrial/mining projects (greenfield and brownfield projects).
- Good communication, stakeholder management and reporting skills.
- Commissioning experience of mine ventilation, pumping, electrical substations, diesel workshops, crushers and conveyors etc. would be added advantage.
