The Impact you will have in this role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal IBM MQ Systems Engineer with deep expertise in cloud and OpenShift‑based container platforms. In this role, you will define the technical direction and architecture of our modernized messaging platforms, leveraging containerization, automation, and cloud‑native design principles. You will operate as a hands‑on technical leader, shaping platform strategy, engineering standards, and operational maturity while partnering closely with architects, application owners, and infrastructure teams across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Design modern, scalable messaging solutions aligned to business and resiliency requirements
  • Lead the design, deployment, and operation of IBM MQ queue managers with high availability and disaster recovery
  • Deploy and operate IBM MQ and App Connect Enterprise (ACE) on OpenShift container platforms and cloud environments (AWS/hybrid)
  • Design and implement Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) and automation using Ansible, Chef, and Terraform
  • Define platform standards, reference architectures, and operational patterns for enterprise MQ usage
  • Monitor and optimize performance using Prometheus, Grafana, and MeshIQ (APM6)
  • Conduct proof‑of‑technology and proof‑of‑concepts to evaluate and adopt modern messaging capabilities
  • Drive an SRE mindset, focusing on reliability, availability, scalability, and resilience over reactive incident handling
  • Mentor and technically guide L2/L3 engineers, promoting best practices in automation, reliability engineering, and proactive operations
  • Author and maintain implementation standards, operating procedures, and transition artifacts for support teams

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience

Talents Needed for Success:

  • 10+ years of hands‑on IBM MQ administration and engineering experience
  • Deep expertise in queue managers, channels, clustering, and HA/DR architectures
  • Proven ability to drive technical outcomes independently and influence across teams
  • Strong experience with containerized messaging platforms on OpenShift/Kubernetes in cloud or hybrid environments
  • Demonstrated success with Infrastructure‑as‑Code and automation (Ansible, Chef, Terraform)
  • Solid experience in Linux/Unix environments
  • Exposure to MQ Native HA and MQ IPT strongly preferred
  • Strong scripting skills (Bash) and programming experience (C/C++, Java) is a plus
  • Cloud and container certifications preferred but not required
