Job Description

Position: Associate Dean – Engineering

Institution: Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), Bengaluru

Reporting to: Dean, SOE

Employment Type: Full-time (Senior Academic Leadership Role)

Role Purpose

The Associate Dean – Engineering is a senior academic administrator responsible for supporting the Dean in the academic, administrative, research, and quality enhancement functions of the Faculty of Engineering. The role ensures compliance with UGC and AICTE regulations, promotes academic excellence, and drives institutional growth and accreditation outcomes (NBA, NAAC, NIRF).

Key Responsibilities

A. Academic Leadership

  • Assist in planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of UG, PG, and PhD programs in engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure curriculum design aligns with AICTE model curriculum, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and industry requirements.
  • Monitor teaching-learning processes, academic delivery, and student performance metrics.
  • Promote innovative pedagogy, including experiential learning, blended learning, and digital education.

B. Regulatory Compliance (UGC/AICTE)

  • Ensure adherence to UGC Regulations (2018 and amendments) and AICTE Approval Process Handbook norms.
  • Maintain compliance in areas such as:
  • Faculty qualifications and student-faculty ratio
  • Infrastructure and lab standards
  • Academic governance processes
  • Support statutory documentation for approvals, inspections, and audits.

C. Accreditation & Rankings

  • Lead and support NBA accreditation processes for engineering programs.
  • Contribute to NAAC accreditation activities (criteria, SSR preparation).
  • Facilitate improvement in NIRF rankings and other national/global benchmarks.

D. Faculty Development & HR Management

  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of faculty as per AICTE/UGC norms.
  • Promote faculty development programs (FDPs), research initiatives, and higher studies.
  • Ensure adherence to API/PBAS norms for career advancement.

E. Research, Innovation & Consultancy

  • Promote a strong research culture aligned with DSU's strategic goals.
  • Support faculty in securing funded projects (DST, AICTE, SERB, etc.).
  • Encourage patents, publications (Scopus/SCI), and industry collaborations.
  • Facilitate innovation, incubation, and startup ecosystems.

F. Student Development

  • Enhance student outcomes, employability, and holistic development.
  • Oversee mentoring systems, internships, and placement readiness.
  • Support extracurricular activities, technical clubs, and competitions.

G. Industry Collaboration

  • Build partnerships with industry for:
  • Internships and placements
  • Joint research and consultancy
  • Curriculum input
  • Promote Skill-based certifications and industry-oriented programs.

H. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dean in policy implementation and strategic planning.
  • Participate in statutory bodies such as:
  • Board of Studies (BoS)
  • Academic Council
  • Department Advisory Boards
  • Prepare periodic reports on academic and operational performance.

Eligibility Criteria (As per UGC/AICTE Norms)

Educational Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Engineering/Technology in a relevant discipline (mandatory).
  • First Class or equivalent at B.E./B.Tech. and M.E./M.Tech. levels.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of teaching/research/industry experience, with:
  • At least 5+ years in a leadership role (HoD, Professor, Associate Dean, etc.).
  • Experience in accreditation (NBA/NAAC) and regulatory compliance is highly desirable.

Academic Credentials

  • Strong research profile with: Publications in peer-reviewed journals (Scopus/SCI indexed)
  • Patents/grants (preferred)
  • Experience in handling funded research projects.
