Job Description

The Technology, Media and Communications team at BTG Advaya is seeking a lawyer to be based in Mumbai with a specialization in fintech, payments regulations, IT/internet regulations, data privacy, and digital currencies. Having some transaction experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide legal advise, guidance, and support on internet regulations, privacy laws, fintech and digital payments, including regulatory compliances, licensing, and risk assessment.
  2. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, notices, and other legal documents pertaining to the aforesaid.
  3. Prepare advisory memos and provide legal opinions on complex legal issues related to tech regulatory matters.
  4. Advise on IT/tech transactions, including incorporations, restructuring, acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and corporate restructuring.
  5. Conduct due diligence reviews and analyse legal risks associated with transactions.
  6. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, including but not limited to on compliance and due-diligence matters.
  7. Draft regulatory applications, compliance policies, and procedures.
  8. Stay updated with the latest legal developments, industry trends, and regulatory changes impacting the company's operations.
  9. Contribute to content creation initiatives by writing articles, preparing advisory materials, and collaborating on educational content related to legal topics.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B. or equivalent) and licensed to practice law in India.
  2. 2-3 years of experience practicing law, preferably with a focus on fintech, payments, internet regulations, privacy, IT/tech transactions, or related fields.
  3. Strong knowledge and understanding of fintech industry regulations, digital currencies, payment systems, and related legal frameworks.
  4. Proven experience in drafting and reviewing contracts, agreements, notices, and legal documents with attention to detail and accuracy.
  5. Sound analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical, commercial legal advice.
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  7. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
  8. Not staying restricted to what has been assigned only but always looking to add value for process improvement and standardisation.
