Position Overview:
The Associate, Communications (Campaigns & Events, Website and Social Media) will play a crucial role in developing and executing communications strategies that enhance Room to Read's visibility, promote its mission of foundational literacy and girls education, and support its country-wide programs. The role requires creativity, strong writing skills, campaign and events management skills, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Understanding Room to Read's work: Demonstrate a deep understanding of Room to Read's mission, values, and programs, particularly in the areas of literacy development and girls education in India. Be well-versed in the organization's efforts to create a positive influence, its approach to early childhood education, and its commitment to creating culturally relevant, sustainable learning opportunities in communities across India.
- Content Development: Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and effective content across various formats, including social media posts, blog articles, website and other relevant media, while maintaining consistency with the organization's tone and messaging.
- Internal Communication: Support the team with internal newsletters, reports including the annual report, and communications materials to keep staff informed and engaged with organizational priorities. Identify opportunities for an effective country wide dissemination of the communications material developed.
- Campaign and event support: Lead/Assist in organizing the organization's key flagship campaigns and national as well as state events, including working on specific content pieces, as required by the campaign/event. This also entails developing communications materials for events, including speeches, presentations, talking points, and event briefs. It will require the candidate to work with teams across all the intervention states of Room to Read India.
- Website and Social Media Management: Ensure the regular maintenance and updates of the organization's website, ensuring content accuracy, functionality, and user experience. Responsibilities include uploading new content in a timely manner including crucial financial documents, removing dated content, optimizing web pages for SEO, and coordinating with web developers for technical improvements as needed. The person will also manage the social media channels of Room to Read and ensure that the content calendar and plans are adhered to.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, media relations, or public relations, ideally within the non-profit, education, or international development sectors.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong ability to craft clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in digital communications, including social media platforms and content management systems with demonstrated experience in social media management.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Prior experience of managing big ticket campaigns and national events.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- A passion for Room to Read's mission of promoting foundational literacy and girls education.
