ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an Assistant Video Editor – Promos to join our creative team and work across our YouTube and social-focused content roster.
This is a role for an editor who understands that a promo is more than just a collection of good shots. It is about finding the hook, building curiosity, creating momentum, and making the audience want to watch more. You will work on promotional videos, trailers, teasers, episodic content, YouTube videos, Shorts, cutdowns, and other digital-first video assets. You will take projects from rough assembly through to final delivery while maintaining strong pacing, storytelling, audio, visual quality, and platform requirements.
You will work closely with senior editors, producers, creative leads, and the wider content team to turn raw footage and creative briefs into engaging content built for YouTube and social audiences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Video Editing & Storytelling
- Edit short-form promotional videos, promos, trailers, teasers, and episodic content from rough assembly to final delivery.
- Build strong narrative flow through shot selection, pacing, sequencing, and continuity.
- Identify strong hooks, reactions, dialogue, moments, and visual beats that can capture audience attention.
- Edit according to storyboards, scripts, creative briefs, and rough concepts.
- Create edits that maintain viewer interest and communicate the core idea of the content quickly and effectively.
- Develop cutdowns, highlights, teasers, and promotional versions from longer-form content.
- Adapt editing style according to the content, audience, brand, and platform.
2. Creative Collaboration
- Work closely with senior editors, producers, creative directors, and content teams on assigned projects.
- Understand creative briefs and translate concepts into effective visual storytelling.
- Take feedback positively and implement revisions accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate with graphic and motion teams when additional visual elements are required.
- Work with the YouTube and social teams to understand the purpose and intended audience of each asset.
- Manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and meeting agreed timelines.
3. Audio, Music & Sound Design
- Perform basic audio mixing, dialogue balancing, and audio cleanup.
- Select and integrate suitable music and sound effects for promotional content.
- Use music, SFX, pauses, and audio transitions to strengthen hooks and pacing.
- Ensure clean, balanced, and consistent audio in final exports.
- Understand how sound can enhance emotion, energy, tension, and audience engagement.
4. Colour & Visual Enhancement
- Perform basic colour correction and maintain visual consistency across shots.
- Ensure footage from different cameras and sources maintains a consistent visual look.
- Apply appropriate transitions, effects, and visual treatments as required.
- Maintain overall visual quality and ensure edits meet the creative direction of the project.
5. Motion Graphics & Visual Elements
- Integrate simple motion graphics, lower thirds, titles, supers, logos, and brand assets.
- Work with existing motion and graphic assets to enhance promotional edits.
- Create clean and visually engaging title treatments and on-screen elements.
- Coordinate with motion graphic designers when more advanced animation or visual effects are required.
6. YouTube & Social Content Adaptation
- Adapt video content for YouTube, YouTube Shorts, and social-first formats.
- Understand differences in aspect ratios, duration, pacing, hooks, and viewing behaviour across platforms.
- Create multiple versions of content where required for different digital platforms.
- Identify moments from long-form content that can be repurposed into short-form assets.
- Maintain consistency with the visual language and content style established for each YouTube or social property.
7. Media Management & Final Delivery
- Organise footage, project files, graphics, music, sound effects, and other media assets.
- Maintain clean project structures and proper file naming and version control.
- Manage project archives and ensure files can be easily accessed by the wider team.
- Prepare final exports according to required codecs, resolutions, aspect ratios, frame rates, and platform specifications.
- Complete final checks before delivery to ensure there are no technical or creative errors.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 1–3 years of professional video editing experience.
- Strong portfolio or demo reel showcasing promotional, YouTube, digital, or episodic video work.
- Strong understanding of storytelling, pacing, hooks, sequencing, and visual continuity.
- Good understanding of editing for YouTube and social audiences.
- Ability to take a project from raw footage or rough assembly through to final delivery.
- Good understanding of basic audio mixing, music selection, and sound design.
- Basic knowledge of colour correction and visual enhancement.
- Understanding of video codecs, aspect ratios, frame rates, resolutions, and export settings.
- Ability to work with storyboards, scripts, briefs, and creative direction.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative creative environment.
- Open to feedback and willing to continuously improve editing skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience editing YouTube or social-first content.
- Experience working on promos, trailers, teasers, episodic content, or entertainment formats.
- Familiarity with YouTube Shorts and short-form content.
- Basic understanding of motion graphics and After Effects.
- Experience with multi-camera editing.
- Basic understanding of colour grading and sound design.
- Experience working in a creative agency, production house, studio, or digital content environment.
- Understanding of YouTube audience retention, hooks, pacing, and digital content performance.
LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION PROFICIENCY
English: Professional proficiency – Mandatory
Hindi: Professional proficiency – Preferred
Additional regional language: Preferred, depending on client requirements
The ability to understand creative briefs, communicate clearly with producers and editors, and work effectively within a collaborative creative team is essential.

A DAY AT COCOMA DIGITAL – ASSISTANT VIDEO EDITOR
No two days look the same. You'll work across different projects involving raw footage, creative briefs, active edits, feedback, refinements, and final delivery. You may work on promotional edits, YouTube cutdowns, Shorts, audio and colour, motion assets, or social-first content while collaborating with editors, producers, designers, and creative teams. The role requires strong editing fundamentals, storytelling, creativity, attention to detail, adaptability, ownership, and the ability to deliver quality work within deadlines.
