The merger of Aviva Singapore and Singlife was announced in September 2020 and created one of the largest homegrown financial services companies in Singapore in a deal valued at S$3.2 billion. It was the largest insurance deal in Singapore at the time. Singlife was subsequently acquired by Sumitomo Life in March 2024, one of Japan's leading life insurers, which valued Singlife at S$4.6 billion, making the transaction one of the largest insurance deals in Southeast Asia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in actuarial processes and capital management practices.
  • Review monthly, quarterly and annual valuation results, and prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor the Company's solvency position to ensure compliance with target capital requirements.
  • Oversee the Matching Adjustment portfolio to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including the performance of monthly cash flow matching test and the preparation of quarterly reports for the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
  • Review quarterly and annual policy liability movement analysis for presentation to the IC/ALCO.
  • Review quarterly Capital reporting submissions to Sumitomo.
  • Lead and review key actuarial projects, including the MAS Industry-Wide Stress Test and Business Planning exercises, and provide recommendations on appropriate management actions.
  • Support internal and external audit engagements by coordinating and responding to audit requests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define data requirements for new product launches, and review User Acceptance Testing (UAT) results to ensure data accuracy and readiness for valuation reporting.
  • Maintain and enhance valuation process documentation, operating procedures, and control checklists to ensure robust governance and operational efficiency.
  • Support ad hoc initiatives, strategic projects, and other assignments as required by management.

Requirements

  • Experience

ü 7 to 10 years of experience in the actuarial field, with a focus on life valuation reporting.

ü Strong understanding of Singapore insurance regulatory environment (RBC2).

ü Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.

ü Proficiency in Microsoft Office and actuarial modelling software (Prophet).

ü Self-driven, with excellent teamwork and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Education

ü Academic: Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics (preferred).

ü Professional Certification(s): Nearly qualified or making good progress in actuarial exams with an internationally recognized actuarial body.
